The Golden Rules

  1. No trolling. Posts with the sole purpose of "stirring things up" will be locked and/or deleted.

  2. Avoid personal attacks. A good flaming can be fun and can also be necessary sometimes but let's try to attack the idea and not the person. Excessive flaming will not be tolerated. If you must have it out with someone, take it to email.

  3. No pornographic, sexually offensive, sexually explicit, or objectifying material. Doesn't get any simpler than that.

  4. Respect others' privacy. Posting personal information about other people or posters, without their express consent, is strictly forbidden.

  5. No spamming. Commercial related posts will be deleted and the members account will be disabled.

  6. No cross-posting. One topic, one post.

  7. Moderators' discretion always applies. If you wish to dispute a moderator's decision please send a private message to the admin that clearly outlines your reasons for the dispute. DO NOT start a new thread to complain as it will be locked or deleted and your complaint will be ignored.

  8. Copyrighted Material: With few exceptions, under no circumstances should you post copyrighted works in their entirety. Fair Use legislation in the US and Fair Dealing legislation in Canada loosely dictate that only portions of copyrighted works may be reproduced for matters of comment or criticism. For all intents and purposes this means you should quote only the portions of copyrighted texts that are most relevant to the discussion. Providing a link to the source of the quotes is strongly encouraged but not absolutely necessary.

The Golden Guidelines

  1. Use descriptive subjects for your threads. Doing so will make it easier for people to find the stuff that they want to read and make searches turn up much more relevant results.

  2. THERE'S NO NEED TO YELL. All-Caps posts are annoying and generally regarded as rude.

  3. Avoid using foul language in your thread subjects. While we have no objection to the reasonable use of colorful language in posts, we'd like to keep the subjects fit for search engines.

  4. Please observe the basic rules of "Netiquette".

  5. Post in the right forum. If it's about something we have a forum for, please post it there. If you think it belongs in a forum we don't have, feel free to suggest an addition in the Feedback forum.

  6. Avoid reviving old threads. If a thread hasn't had a single reply in over a month, there's probably a good reason for it. Let it die peacefully and start a fresh topic instead. If you must make reference to an old thread, a quote and/or a link will suffice.

  7. Help the mods enforce the PG. A self-policing community is a secure community. By far the best way to help in this regard is to lead by example; simple things like introducing n00bs to the PG and politely pointing out PG infractions (and possible remedies) to wayward posters goes a long way towards keeping this place active, entertaining and fun.

  8. When sending email to the mods or the admin for technical assistance:

    • Use a proper subject that describes the content of the email.

    • Describe the problems you're having in as much detail as possible.

    • Include the text of any messages or errors the forum is giving you.

    • Include your login name, password and the email address you used to register.
