Today a co-worker was informed she would have to park in the employee parking even though she has a handicap marker. I know of 2 other employees that park in the same handicap area but have not heard if they are being requested to park in the employee parking. What is the policy and where can I locate it for this co-worker? I can't find anything on the computer and am not getting any positive responses about a little tutorial so that I might better navigate the Human Resources areas that are said to be available to us at the click of the mouse.

Is the employee handicap? We have a hang tag for our car to be used only when my son is getting out "only", not me or anyone else.

We have handicapped parking where I am at and employees are allowed to park there. They do have the right if they have the handicap plates or cards for the car.

She is seeing a doctor regarding hip problems - I am not sure what the condition or reason but I do not believe she has obtained it under false pretense - I think an "associate" should be given remedial lessons on navigating the Human Resources area of the intranet - this information should be made easily available without hiring a computer detective to access policies regarding conditions of our employment - if she is in a grey area, she should be able to find it and read it - NOW - not when they determine they want to cite her or even possibly terminate her

Is the employee parking lot sufficiently accessible for your handicapped co-worker? B/C otherwise Sears could be getting themselves into some A.D.A. trouble.

Mrs DD, your state has very loose legislation concerning handicapped parking. Best bet is to get someone to do a sit-out. Someone siiting out in a wheelchair with a wheelchair sign is bound to draw some media atention.

There are NO designated parking spots for handicap in employee parking area and it is pretty far from the employee entrance. Two other employees use the handicap area located outside customer pick-up/employee entrance - but I do not believe they have been asked to park in the employee lot - I have not asked nor have I heard

The associate may need to get a letter from the doctor. We had an associate at our store that brought one in and she was told that she could park in the handicap space. She also had the handicap card. As you know, people do abuse the system. This is why she may need the letter. Some people have problems that we can't see most of the time and need to park close to the store.

MrsDD I am a law student and this summer I am working for a union labor and employment law firm in San Francisco.

If you can't find a helpful answer in Sears policy, please PM me on this board.

I am willing to at least look into the legal side of this for you when I go into work on Monday.

What I presently would like is a little guidance how to navigate Sears Intranet Human Resources - I would like to not have to ask others when I could look it up myself - it is not that those who know are not willing to train/teach/guide me, it is the same thing as everywhere else in the store - NO TIME and/or NOT ENOUGH ASSOCIATES to provide needed assistance

In my store we have had lots of people over the years with problems walking across the parking lot for one reason or another.
In my store winters are cold, slippey and icy.
What kind of heartless SGM would not let a person that works in their store with some sort of health issue not park close to the doors?
Who cares if they have a speical plate or not?
A little respect huh? ~GoodFella

I wish everybody was given the training on navigating HR on the intranet. It is very confusing. I start by going to HR hot topics, then on the right hand of the hot topics screen there is a box with several areas in it. One of which is compensation. There is a "search" box that may be able to help you if you type "parking" into it. The information in this area is invaluable for us, and every page is printable!!!! yeah. I'd suggest spending a lunch break looking around the site, and printing everything you find of importance. The reason why I say this, is I can see Sears taking this information away from us and making many if not all areas of the intranet inaccessable. Be prepared for the worst.

Well - I can see where I will be spending my lunch break Monday - Hot Topics - huh - I think I will sit in HR and just start clicking here and there - and typing in every kind of search word that I deem important - wonder if anyone will come over and check to make sure I am not logging onto retail-worker - thanks for the tidbits of information

Off of your main menu when you sign on is a menu listing. HR is one of the listings, and under HR are quite a few other menu options. It's pretty easy to navigate through, although you may have to look through several menu options to find what you want.....if all else fails, call 88 Sears...they will walk you through it.....

realstuff - i followed the instructions - got to the HR area - and gheeeezzz - where do i begin - i typed in keywords to search and it brought up webpages of corporate lingo - but it never produced anything on handicap parking - for customer or associate - but i will do the next thing - call the assist line - now all i need to do is find a computer terminal where there is a phone at hand and the person assigned to that desk is willing to give up his or her chair while the assist person walks me through it - boy - this just gets easier and easier Very Happy Doh! Wink - i can't help but laugh when I think about the obstacle course Sears makes us navigate to get an answer to a perceived simple question - how does one request computer time for HR issues when there are no hours to staff the floor and they insist that we must do this on company time - I will just go back to the associate that asked me about the handicap parking for associates and tell her I am still working on it - she feels a bit intimidated at this point - thanks for the information - it got me to the HR area of the intranet

Possible help=disabilities.com or search the Americans with Disabilities Act.Sears has been sued under the ADA several times which brought about stuff like the amount of ailse space needed for a disabled person to navigate through.Good Luck in fighting this ignorance.
