Lumberwoman, you're not "alone," just "unique!" I've never heard of a female in L/BM either, but in Commercial Sales it's not that infrequent. Anyway, get ready to tote that barge and lift that bale, baby![/b]

You are not alone! Our Team Lead in Building Materials is female. And she is terrific! Thumbs Up

Very cool! How long have you been in that position? Do you have a lot of knowledge in that area? How do you like it? How do customers treat you?

As others said, at my old store they did not have a female in Lumber/Building materials. They had 1 in Commerical sales and 1 in millwork. They did cover lumber from time to time and our commerical sales lady was hell on a forklift. And she is sexy as all hell!

Surprised I guess I am a rarity. I like it, I was in Hardware and Tools for 2 years so product knowledge isnt a problem. The guys seem to like it ok. I just feel like an ass sometimes when I cant lift something.

Ha, I bet the guys like it Smile . Hey, just curious: did you get a raise when you moved from H/T to lumber/BM? Lot more muscle work required in lumber than in H/T that's for sure.

The customers look right past me, but when I actually know the answer to their question they look shocked. Same as when I was in Hard/Tools.
I like it there. I clean up 'cause all the guys hate to sweep and zone everything. They do flat stacking and lug concrete.

LOL.. I so can relate to the customers looking past you! I'm the only female in the ISLG/OPE dept., and men come up and try to ask me questions that I wouldn't know about anything OPE and totally blow them away by the answers I give them. I'm the first female to work in that dept. at my store and also the first female TeamLeader of this dept. I'm very knowledgeable about the product, now that I'm going on almos a year and a half now in that dept., so once you get a hang of it you'll do great! We have one female in the lumber dept. at my store as well and she too found it to be a challenge! Hang in there!!

I have never seen a female in the Lumber/Building Materials department at the Lowes I work at. Also I have never seen a female employee in the Electrical Department.

One of the stores in my district has a female over zone 3 as department manager. The zone manager for that area is male of course. I've seen several females take control over that area. Just because a male is a male doesn't make him any better of a manager over building materials.

Some women are capable of doing this task. The managers however rarely have to restack the concrete. They manage the department and delegate the menial tasks.

Wow, skibunny, your store is entirely different than ours then! Department managers at my store generally have NO crew working with them to delegate work to. It is normal around here for department managers to be doing all the grunt work, simply because no one else is scheduled to do it. So if you want it done...you do it yourself.

I load maybe 4 bags of concrete a day. Cant lift much more. The guys are really supportive so are most of the Commercial sales people. Most stuff I move w/power equipment. Depends.. my people are understanding if I cant do a code 50 when the guys are at lunch or something.
