Please read page 2 of the Benefits News. My copy was attached to this week's pay stub.
The headline is "A Benefits Strategy to Match Our Business Strategy". Since our business strategy is cost reduction, sell-offs and targeted headcount reductions along with a healthy dose of improved cashflow, it makes me wonder just what scheme is about to be revealed to reduce the associates AND managers benefits.

"one of the great things in life is to have choices." -Alan Lacy, CEO Sears
Choice is at the core of American values, as well as the core of our business strategy. Sears is making an important choice-to step us to the challenge of a retail environment that is always changing...
...We are also focused on reducing our cost structure, because it is fundamentally too high for ongoing growth and success. We are profitable now but we cant stay put.
...So change simply makes good business sense.
What does this mean for benefits? IT MEANS WE WILL BE LOOKING FOR WAYS TO SPEND OUR MONEY MORE EFFECTIVELY...BUT WE WILL HAVE TO LOOK AT THINGS DIFFERENTLY, JUST AS DEPARTMENTS ARE DOING THROUGHOUT SEARS.
Sears spends approximately $1billion annually for benefits. Allocating that money is an ongoing balancing act- we have to manage company funds responsibly while providing meaningful programs for associates....
So we're taking a step back and thoughtfully considering how to best allocate our benefits budget for 2004.
This is the condensed version and I can be rightfully criticized for omitting 2/3 of the original but I think what I highlighted shows why I posted this thread. -freeceller

WOW. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure there are many more, like myself, that haven't seen this or heard of this.

Wow! Nothing given to us when we picked up our checks. However, I figured something would be up with benefits, many competitors are doing the same. It is the sign of the times
