My dept recently lost a person to anther dept. Because of this, my dept head went to the HR, and begged for an extra person. The HR "ran a report" and my name showed up. Here's the thing: I have been working for the company for the past six years. I have been just about everything in the store from DH24 to cashier, to freight team, ot my current department receiving. I currently work overnights in the back, while going to school during the days. Since I'm an engineering major, I needed to cut back on my work hours from the full 40 to 37 to 35 to 32. Right now, I'm working just under the 32 hours. Now, my name popped up on this report and they came to me and said that I needed to change to part time status or work a full 40. I and everyone else that I have talked to at work believe that to maintain your FT status, you have to work a minimum of 32 hours a week. I'm just wondering if anyone has concrete (as in SOP) proof that this is true. I don't want to make this a major situtation by calling the alert line, however I don't want to lose all my benefits, and I can't work 40. Any help please?

Ok, talk to me like I am a 6 year old. You were a DH in 24 and you worked you way to cashier? Before you call the alertline, and that IS your perogative, you should make sure that your facts are in line.

I don't know how HD works but at Lowes you can work 32 temporarily. Anything over 6 weeks then you are moved to PT, and yes you loose your benefits(medical) you still get 20 hours vacation, 5 sick days. Even though you work 32 you still only get 20 hours vacation. We have a parttimer who has worked 40 hours since she started a year ago. She took vacation and got 20 hours pay, she was pissed.

I have my facts straight. I was DH for 2 years then stepped down for school. Later, I became a cashier for a couple of months during the summer. I then moved to nights. Like the apron says, "I help in all departments!" I again discussed my problem with my fellow overnighters last night, and we all seem to think that 32 is the requirement. I just want whatever ammo that I can have
when I go to talk to the HR.

Ask them if 32 hours is full time. Then ask if there is any stipulation as to the length of time you can be at 32 and still be full time. It may be like Lowes, if you are at 32 for a long time then no you are not considered full time anymore.

Ok here is the thing....

First I want to say that I do not represent home depot, am not employed there, and have no say in what happens with the orange store. (legal disclaimer .. there should be alot more, just know that this is not official or HD related)

I did ALOT of delving into SOP befor I got termmed. (may have something to do with the HR not liking me showing people how to access SOP in thier comps)

32 hours is the min you can work and still hold your full time status. It is broken down into a 19 week average I believe. Once you fall below this average they can/will make you less than full time, yanking your bennies, ect..

Unless you have a medical or possibly olypic waiver, I believe if they schedual you 40 hours you have to work them. If you fail to comply you are not following the schedualled graph, and there by taking away from customer service. (in other words ... termmed)

I wish I had better news for you, but I don't see a hard ball way of fixxing your situation. If you tell them you need a particular schedual, they will tell you you have to follow the graphs. If you do not fit in the graphs, you need take a part time possition.
