I was approached by one of the cashiers who said they heard a rumor we were going to be open until 10:00 m-s, and open till 9 on Sunday. We have not done summer hours for a few years and these are our summer hours. He asked me because I am usually up on everything. The week day change we are usually busy in L&G, but on Sunday after 7 you can shoot a cannon off and not hit anyone. I have worked until midnight before getting L&G ready for the next day because L&G were sent home at 9, they did not do a damn thing before they left. He then asked an ASM and found out it was true. The zone manager in L&G will take care of her own and they aren't scheduled past 9, that way the rest of the store has to go out and clean up their mess, after they have done their department. Then he said he would not work them, if he was scheduled. I know he reads this forum so here goes. These are the hours we are open, if you are scheduled you will work them or I guess you will have to find another job. It will be hard to find another job at your age, so either put in a request not to work the closes or maybe it is time to get out. I work a set schedule now so these hours will not effect me, but if I was working the close open shift, I would just do it. This manager is on his way out, I do think a new one is coming in, new rules will apply. Happens every few years, the new manager will find out it is not profitable to stay open these hours just like all the others have. So grin, bear it and keep quiet.

They changed our M-Sat hrs to 7-9 but left our Sun's alone. Any time anyone questions the SM or gawd-forbid the DM on this change, they get all defensive and say how much extra $$ the store now brings in. I don't know how this $$ getting here, it certainly isn't thru the front doors or the registers. If it weren't for all the cameras and all the extra work that seems to be piling up,we'd start dusting off the old roller skates and have some fun that extra hour.

Oh my would i love it if our hours during the week are 7-9. For us its 6-10. On sundays we operate 8-7 but when daylight savings comes it will be 8-8. They just recently were making the front end cashiers stay an hour past closing to help clean up the departments. so I am usually scheduled 2-11. I am welcoming the warm weather but not these changes.

Our hours now are 6:30-9, M-Sat., Sun 8-7, We are changing to 6:30-10, M-Sat, Sun 8-8. We have always been scheduled an extra hour at closing. In the summer the salary associates are usually there until midnight cleaning up L&G. I didn't mind it too much, except we will be getting a new batch of cry babies who say, "I am a cashier and why do I have to clean up a department" WELCOME TO LOWES, it is called TEAM WORK. It is really bad on the ones who have to open the next day, especially when we got a truck the night before. We have to be there at 5 am, you know to get the freight up by 10. You know it is really funny, we use to come in at 5 to unload the trucks and have freight up by 10. Now trucks come in at night and we can't get freight up by 10 am. It use to take us less than 3 hours to unload a truck in the morning. Now it takes about 5 hours to unload it at night. Same amount of people, same trucks. Amazes the mind.

At my store we have 7AM - 9PM Mon - Sat and 8AM - 7PM Sun (When I first started here Sun was 9AM - 6PM but the new SM changed that.) Closing associates are usually scheduled to 11PM Mon - Sat and 9PM Sun (especially now, we were scheduled to 10PM Mon - Sat and 8PM Sun.)
They, the Mgmnt, said everyone was scheduled to 11 would help each other out and everyone would leave together, some nights may be even before 11 (Team Work). However it seems that shortly after 10 most of the cashiers are leaving, so I guess they are on a different team.
It is extremely difficult to be scheduled to close one night and then turn around and open the very next morning, luckily though I only live about a mile from my store so I don’t have a long drive like some of my co-workers. I’ve even been called in to work early on a few occasions to open because someone else either called in or didn’t show up. Mgmnt knew I could be there in just a couple of minutes and I don’t mind I’d rather open than close any day.
We have an overnight crew that unloads the trucks so we never have to worry about unloading the trucks although when they do have two trucks, which is rare, sometimes there is still freight to be put up but it is out on the floor.

Classylady---i understand your comment about "teamwork", thats not what i'm complaining about. In my peticular store, now that they know that cashiers are staying later, some of our departments have purposely gotten lazier so we can do their dirty work. Other departments though are as good as they always were. Some sales specialists and CSAs are just standing around talking when there aren't any customers around. I even overheard a conversations with a new sales specialist, team leader, and a CSA in one of the departments talking about and i quote "cashiers are staying till 11 now so we can just do nothing until 9 o clock and act like we have been recovering for the whole day, management won't know the difference". I reported that and boy did they get it from their zone manager especially the team leader. Cashiers usually get to choose which department to go to, zone managers are cool about that. I told my entire front end about that and now no one goes into that department which by the way is plumbing. No one has been choosing plumbing ever since thats for sure. They deserve what they are getting.

You can do a lot in your own department(the front end). Stock shelves, clean under registers, sweep, clean the restrooms, do trash. When the departments got lazy I just keep the cashiers busy doing the front end. I would only allow cashiers to sweep departments. Have your head cashier do this for about a week and the departments will get the hint. Cashiers are not departments bitches to clean up after them. It pisses me off when I see departments doing nothing about zoning. I refused to help departments that I know did not do their work.

Our Mgmnt’s view on this is that "we" the hard workers will help "weed out" those who wait until the last minute and end up having practically the whole store come and zone for them.

I am a head cashier myself and anytime that i have after counting pulls, close outs, and finishing up, the zone manager wants me to join the cashiers for about a half an hour to finish up departments. Just like you, I started to see which departments actually try and the ones who do nothing but zone. The zone mgr and i give the 3-4 cashiers who close the choices of departments to go to and they work it out. I tell them not to go to certain ones for the obvious reasons. Now plumbing especially is seeing their faults and they deserve every bit of it. I just joined our stores gallup team and it begins on the first week of next month, and i will put my two sense in, with the busiest months of this store coming up, i am not putting up with this stuff.

Get ready for the cashiers complaining about going to lumber and L&G. The are the worst during the summer. Our lumber guys leave at 10 and so do L&G. It sucks because they don't zone before they leave. I hated consolidating the plants and then putting the racks back.

Mine is 6-10 monday - sat
sunday is 8-7...
one in the same district is 8-8 on sundays....
Lately we've had some odd things because we'd be on the scedual for longer than the time for the opening....in other words when we close at 10 and your on for 11 you'd probably get out at 1030 at the latest with no way of getting that half hour.
Asking around it seems that we can take shorter lunches and punch in earlier (as long as we don't go over the time)
This weeks check is going to be bad since I was snowed in for one day and because I closed four nights in a row I only got 35 for that one...so it's probably 66 hours I ain't following that stuff again though...
hopefully I'll get easter off too

Try cutting your lunch short, punch in early and you will catch hell in our store. If your hours are short --too bad.

Apparently my brains have taken a holiday. I meant to say we are open until 10 thru the week .That would explain the roller skating dream (too much Xanadu ) Usually the ladies up front only go to departments that help us out (code 3's and 50's etc.)
