Dollar General settles disability-discrimination claim
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced that it has reached a settlement with Dollar General Corp. over the company's firing of a mentally retarded employee three years ago.
The commission had accused Dollar General of firing the employee, who worked in a Granite Quarry store, due to her disability in July 2000.
Under the settlement, Dollar General agreed to pay the employee $45,000 and to publish an article in its monthly employee newsletter discussing the rights and obligations provided for in the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The settlement is now waiting for court approval.
