hmmmmmmmmm....now that you mention it....

it does sound EERILY SIMILAR to the class action lawsuit that was WON by the group against WALMART. they were making people do stuff on their own time. Rolling Eyes

Actually, the Walmart matter was truly disgusting. Because the dept. managers weren't given enough hours to properly staff the floor, they forced the workers to clock out and then come back in and work more hours -- I'm not talking about not getting overtime here, I'm talking about not getting paid at all for hours of extra work! The workers were threatened with their jobs if they squealed.

Love this quote:

Most hourly Wal-Mart workers earn less than $8.50 an hour, which amounts to $17,680 a year for a full-time worker.

I know many Macy's employees who make less than that! Aren't we supposed to be more high-end at Macy's?

We have Wal-Mart prices, thus draw Wal-Mart clientele.

Took a second look at the schedule for Thanksgiving week. I can't believe the store stays open until 10pm on Wednesday! Why? No one will be in the stores. Money hungry bastards.

That is crazy because on Wed night people are at home with their families or starting to cook for Turkey Day! Macy's really hates their employees!

Do we usually close early on Thanksgiving Eve? I don't think my store ever has, but I could be wrong. The days just run together...

No, we don't usually close early, but it seems this year we are staying open LATER than normal!!

We've closed at 6:30 in the past.

We should ask Macy's Insider this question.

We always close at 7. Just late enough to ruin your evening.

bell,
You might want to just ask in your store...your scheduling/office/store/ops managers all have all the store hours for the entire season, and there's no reason why they wouldn't make you a copy if you ask. We have 800+ stores, and they're all different...most are 6pm or earlier!

I didn't know Thanksgiving Eve was a holiday...we do close early on the real "eves"....Christmas and New Years. This has not changed in 25 years...ok, maybe by an hour here or there, but we've always closed earlier on those, but not Thanksgiving Eve.

My store always stays open a 1/2 hour longer on Turkey Eve, year after year, despite no customers. By the early evening it looks like a ghost town. Macy's is stupid.

We probably should close early on Thanksgiving Eve, no one is ever in the store past 5.
I think I will write to Obama and ask him to make Thanksgiving Eve official.

I remember before Macy's took over the store I work in used to close at 5:30 the night before Thanksgiving.

The ODS that lasts 2 days, ugh. What a freakin' mess I walked into this morning!! 3 z's, 2 baby racks, and clothes all over the counter and chairs of fitting room. I was OK with it until the 10:45 person called in. I was pissed. No help at all. I left a big mess too.Tomorrow I work 1-9:30 and after 6 I'm by myself. What the fuck is wrong with management that they can't schedule 2 people every night?????

Oh yea, the gal who came in at 6: 3rd day on the job!

Oh, the magic of Macy's!

OMG! Our store was trashed beyond recognition! All the hard work we did to stock shelves to the max, paper folding, sizing, making sure the 29.99 items weren't mixed in with the 9.99, all went down the toilet! I can sort of understand it being like that DAT but not for this ODS! because the $10.00 off cpn on 25.00 or over had sooooooooo many exclusions on it, customers were yelling at me to try and make it work then I had a couple actually throw the cpn at me and walk out, while telling other customers not to shop here cause it's all a big scam. It was horrible. I wanted to walk out myself. I sure as hell don't like people getting within inches of my face telling me to make the cpn work. I just backed up and waited till that person? (more like a rabid animal) cooled their jets. Then to have my mgr come up to me and interrupt by asking me what my goal was today, which I saw was outrageous when I clocked in, I just ignored him and stayed focused on the customer. It's kinda hard to meet your goal of almost 4500. when all you're selling is clearance items plus the cpn and/or star rewards. Plus it's almost crunch time for "thanks for sharing" and we are supposed to push the hell out of it, and get loyalty accts, circle and sign. Yikes! Then some lady needed floor help and there was no one to be found that could do that for her. So sad! Where's the 100 people they hired? I'm sure they got the prime hrs and days to work, and what's with these new ambassadors? They're useless, they know nothing! I could go on and on but I won't, I think you all know how I'm feeling right now and that's not very well Razz
Sorry for complaining so much but this is the only place I can do that. God forbid I talk this way at the hell-hole!! I'd have been either written up, counseled, suspended or D. all of the above. Naughty! Maybe even fired!

We've all been there Gypsy! I feel your pain! Since my depature from Macy's, nothing much has changed so hang in there! Customers are stupid. I waited patiently in line for one pair of jeans and I even scanned it myself at one of those scanners in the department so I knew EXACTLY what the sale price was. Even though the line was long for a single item I was purchasing for the sale, I was patient because I knew it's not the salesperson's fault that customer's can't read the fine print on their coupons. Some idiot held up the line because he kept arguing with the employe about the additional off on a stupid topper claiming it should be more off. For crying out loud buddy! You're getting a steal on a clearance shirt that was originally priced three times as much. Quit your bitching and just pay the eight bucks for your crappy, ugly shirt which shows that you have no class and no taste whatsoever! I say next time Macy's should just throw the clearance items in one big pile on the floor and have the customers dig for them since they pretty much want bargain basement garbage in the first place! Doh!

Thanks Gypsy for your complaints. I believe the closer we get to Christmas the worse it's gonna get.

Today, I had just clocked out for lunch and talking to another associate who had to attend a specialist meeting (who was also not on the clock) when a customer asked me a question. I told her the answer quickly and continued talking to the associate. I totally ignored the customer, got my purse and walked away. I know she was pissed when she didn't get the help she wanted, but tough shit. I was off the clock and I don't help anyone when it's MY time.

You guys are the BEST! Rock on! Thanks for listening to my whining, more like bitchin and moanin! Can't wait till this WOW cpn starts in a couple days. No exclusions except for EDV's and the normal big ticket depts. Are all stores starting this cpn or is it just a few test stores?

They are wasting so much money paying those Star Service Ambassador manager wannabes, that it isn't even funny! And it is even gonna be less funny when after Christmas we all have our hours cut BECAUSE they wasted so much money on these know nothings! We have at least 12 of them running around our store doing NOTHING!
