New Zenith Plasma-$500
three year master protection agreement-$300
Look on the customers face when you tell them the price of the warranty-priceless

I'm banking on selling nary a warranty on one of these tomorrow

I can't believe they are this out of touch. At half the price I could probably sell a few PAs. Then again they are this out of touch

This is how Sears plans on demoralizing their best full time commission salespeople this holiday season. ( All TV's pay 1% commission )

Sears will sell the promotional TV's at cost, then price the PA's at a price that nobody will buy them.

After the Holiday season, Sears will threaten to fire the full time commission salepeople who didn't meet PA standards and hire a bunch of teenagers at minimum wage, with no benefits.

It suck's !

Zenith is just another (cheap) brand of LG. LG bought them, and supposedly since Zenith owned a lot of patents for the ATSC tuner, LG gets a small cut off of every TV sold now.

I'm sure the Zenith plasma was acceptable, but not excellent.

ive got an element tv and my only real complaint is the audio sounds kinda hollow/tinny, probably because the speakers are pretty small on it, other then that it works great

Hmm. I may be thinking of Proscan. Element is okay. I'd go Vizio for any off brand.

You might be right, after we checked the commission sheets we found several TV models paying only .5% . These included some Sony, LG and Sylvania brands.
Who knows, in a short time they may all pay .5%, this way the only way you can make decent money is to sell the overpriced PA's, Sears would love that. Razz

I glanced at the consumerist today. They had a NY Times article that said you should wait/THINK about buy the PA for at least 2 weeks.

The article also noted those who really love their product would be more likely to buy the PA. Ain't no love gonna have me pay 60% for no stinken warranty. Even if they offered to make it lifetime coverage I don't think I would buy.

It's great advice. Get the product home and see it working for awhile before making the warranty decision. Since the warranty purchase isn't urgent, why not think about it for awhile? This wouldn't work too well for the retailers because most people aren't going to buy the warranty after they get away from the sales pressure.

Stay grouchy when shopping. Happy customers buy more. Here is the NY Times story from the consumerist.com

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/08/business/08every.html?_r=1

So how does agitating the customers and employees with PA pressure help the sales again.

That's a very interesting article. Saying NO to a salesperson is something of a downer for the customer, so if they are in a good mood, they might go along with the extended warranty just to maintain the mood.

The problem is at Sears the customers good mood can't last past the PA price quote. The prices are likely to shock most people out of a cooperative frame of mind. So if they want to enjoy the next purchase, it's better to skip Sears and go to the competitors. Sears turns every transaction into a buzz kill for the customer.

Another interesting comment from the article:

"Such profit margins are high enough that companies having nothing to do with selling the original products have jumped into the market, offering warranties for about half as much."

Outside companies could offer warranties at half of Sears prices and still make a fortune.

Still not at the 15% of cost rule of thumb mark but it's still better than the 60% of cost.

But here comes availability problems again.

I'm hearing where several cable providers had taken away their supposedly free analogue signal for older Tvs and now want rent for cable company converter boxes. The average converter isn't good for CATV. I think this is part of the rush ratmaze is talking about.

Get dinged by your CATV provider then get slammed by Sears for a PA,credit, heroes, email and HFMs-not.
