Anyone else?

What in the world is this meeting about?

It is mandatory - I wonder how many people will wiggle their way out of this one?

I can feel the tension in the air already about this.

I think ours is in the morning...which makes me wonder--who is going to set the ad?

Doh!

Our ad is HUGE for Sunday and our store manager is making us do this meeting in the morning. The people setting the ad are coming in WAY early Sunday morning (like basically Saturday night). Not happy about this.

Supposed to be 2 hour Holiday kick off Rah-Rah meeting company wide. Our's is 9-11.We come in at 6 to start ad but then we have to get off clock by 11 for lunch because of 5 hour rule so we only have from 6-9 then 11:30-2.Like we might get the ad done by then? We had over 8000 promo signs in sign riter yesterday for Friday night and Sunday ads.Since minimum shift is 3 hours they are telling us we are going to have all this extra help with the ad set. What help is someone that has never done it,and only for 1 hour?

Our is after closing on Sunday, and yeah....I heard the same thing.
A Holiday kickoff rally.

rah rah.

Maybe we'll get a slice of two of cheap pizza for the effort.

Look, I'm all for a rah-rah meeting and whatnot, but I wish they would schedule practically. This is a huge ad for Sunday. This meeting should be at night, not in the morning...But I don't know...most people want to be with their families on Sunday night.

What about people that go to church in the morning? Would they get punished for not coming into work?

I was told they were going to have us come in Sat night to set up the Sunday ad. I told them I already had plans and I wasn't coming in. So now we are coming in very early Sunday to set the ad.

In my area people go to church on Sunday night too.

At least it is a paid meeting.

I know the money budget for the meeting was already spent on the managers eating lunch together the last week.

Keep in mind gas prices are high and driving into work for just 3 hours at 7.25 an hour doesn't earn us much.

Sears doesn't care about your plans or your worship patterns.

Main thing is I don't like politics - especially office politics and for certain phoney rah rah let's all be best friends now cause that is what this meeting is all about phoney office politics.

There are always the same old best friends playing the phoney old games - getting all the attention - and it is all about them.

Its not like this meeting is going to change anything that happens in my little world of watching this dysfunctional store crumble before my eyes.

I will still see the same garbage go on in my few puny scheduled hours a week.

I have seen too many of the rah rah meetings to believe anything will change.

November 8th is Friends and Family night at most Kmart stores. I'm working the closing layaway shift - no punch or jollies for me (though free refreshments are never offered to employees on an employee discount shopping day).

Ours is in the morning but it isn't mandatory. From the coworkers I've talked to, it sounds like the meeting will be with just a single person as 99% of the staff is planning to opt out.

It's National Renaissance Day where the goal is "to begin to breath new life into a new Sears Culture". They will begin to introduce our new "Behavior Expectations" for all associates and leaders. All this has me gagging. What a worthless waste of my good time.

Who comes up with these worthless ideas? How can they expect us to get excited about any new program they decide to introduce when all they care about is Sears' bottom line? There is no respect or consideration for the associates or the customers. Why should I care about Sears' bottom line when there is NOTHING in it for me?

My husband says I need to be VERY CAREFUL at the meeting and keep my mouth shut.

At this point I agree with your husband right now times are tough and there is much more people out there who will take your place. I just plan on keeping my mouth shut, I'll be standing somewhere where I can't be seen if I can sneak out after signing the paper I'm going to do it and go work on my ad.

I don't wanna be the odd man out. But I actually enjoyed this meeting...free food, drinks, desserts(donations for heros at home for desserts!), and just upbeat positive energy. None of the usual you didn't make parity bullshit. Just my 2 cents....

.......

I had fun too. We were quite loud. Free food and drinks, raffle, recognition, and some excellent news about the store that I really wish I could share but I would be identified in a heartbeat.

A little negative about some csat numbers, but the rest was very positive.

I thought this activity was really stupid. And a waste of time. You don't beat down people for the past few years, and then expect them to magically get happy. Especially when at the same time they take more and more benefits and lower pay rates. I should have gone off, but I actually somewhat like my store manager enough to just be quiet.

Oh, and having to get up early in the morning on a sunday before we opened was a real joy. I was off the rest of the day, but had to go in for this crap.

Eh, I suppose that the atmosphere is just better at my store. We complained about some things, like how hot it is in the store and so forth. Lots of grumbling about raises too. I am glad I work at my store. You just got to make due with what you have.

It's a good idea to keep attention firmly on their usual behavior and not the "positive energy" generated in an atypical meeting. They were doing this culture change crap long before most of the current employees were even born. Yet the company continues to deteroriate. Positive energy from a single meeting dissipates in a few days. But the negative energy from foolish processes and policies just keeps on regenerating. As someone suggested above, the company is never going to really reform as long as the overall focus is on the short term bottom line.

Positive energy doesn't mean shit when it doesn't address the major customer issues. The lack of take with stock probably costs each unit at least a half million dollars a year. It destroys morale when you can't take care of the customer and make commission.

Not to mention that if you burn someone on something enough times they will never come back.

HUGE waste of time.

On one hand our Store Manager does the Rah Rah thing....

Then tells us that if we're not on board with him we need to look elsewhere for employment.

Gotta Love It.

Thumbs Up
