OK, so as you all know I am a teacher. I have a teachers salary and the spending habits of certain politicians who should remain nameless!

As a result I am "Gasps aside" please, applying for a retail position and managed to land an interview Thursday to become COO of Macys....

OK, so not COO off Macy's, but sales associate at a Kohl's.

Since I've never worked that type of retail, I figured I'd ask you all for advice on what to or not to do in the interview.

I don't want to work a second job - but I want to but a house, car, and pay off a couple of credit cards! (Macy's Included)...

Any advice (and please keep the run for your life jokes aside, I have to find someway to pay for a BMW!)

aackkkkkkk!!!! say it isn't so !!!

but seriously, you do what you gotta do. i do go to the kohl's occasionally and the employees seem happy (at least happier than they are at macy*s ! )

the employees can dress casually so that is cool. good luck . we're here for ya !! Cool

I'm so shocked that you didn't apply at Macy's! Then you could suffer like the rest of us!
My advice would be to try to get a job OFF of the selling floor. Those customers are crazy! The less you have to deal with them, the better. Also, if you don't have a selling job, you won't be pressured to open credit, etc.

depending when your interview will be, go to a Kohls and ask several random employees, "Do you like your job?" I used to do that all the time and as a matter of fact still do occasionally.

Check the Internet to see if there's a Kohl's bitch-type forum board, sort of like HERE.

They're hiring - but I don't want to drive an hour to get there. The drive would take away any money that I would have made. Besides, I don't have enough black!

I'm struggling to cope with all the things Kohl's associates have to promote...

Are we putting this on your Kohl's card today?
Do we have your email address? Save $5.00 on your next order if you give it to us..

If you don't mind go online and take this survey it helps our store!

Sheesh... I'll be able to gripe with all of you later! I need this job though. I could pay off my credit cards and part of my car - enough to trade it in on what I really want.

I figure if it turns out to be to much, I give them 2 weeks and leave! What have I lost by trying?

I'm with maycylady. Apply for something off the floor. Then you won't be bothered by the opening of credit!

Yay! It's a great time to buy a house, with prices down and intrest rates low. You are already paying rent, so a mortgage will be not big deal. Thumbs Up

So? You are throwing away your money by renting. And although you are committed to a mortgage, you can always sell your house and get back the money that you have put in, maybe even more.
Good luck!

Speaking as someone who has worked discount retail (which is what Kohl's is), it is not about sales but credit. Pay sucks and your co-workers are not exactly the brightest lightbulbs to illuminate. Believe me you get quite a mix! Like someone pointed out, stick to seeing if you can work the stockroom as receiving or logistics. You really don't to deal with the customer base that Kohl's has. Better yet apply to Macy's, at least you know what you're getting into. Evil or Very Mad

So I went to the interview today. I don't know what position their going to offer yet. I'm not opposed to signing or whatever - they do that in the evenings. I did make sure to tell her that I would prefer to stay out of the sight of my students that might come in.

I supposedly will have another interview tomorrow and the way she talked, I'd be starting soon.

I did get the credit push during my interview. They basically want a minimum of 1 credit per 4 hours worked.

Yes... I am buying a house. I've picked it out, I've been to the bank, and now I've got to submit the offer through the foreclosure system and get it approved. Make a few repairs and then move in! Smile

Next you'll be getting married!

OK, so Kohl's hasn't called me back. Either way, I have it worked out in my head where I won't need them. LOL!

I made the offer on the house today. I hope it goes through, oh how I pray it goes through!

One thing I've noticed nowadays is they never call you back. The companies that you're interested in NEVER ca;; back. There are as rude as some customers.

Just an update...

Kohls never did call me back. Their loss!

T-Mobile on the other hand did call, I had an interview yesterday with them to be a CSR, and they are supposed to interview me again tomorrow or Tuesday. They set everything up by text message. Imagine that. They have a 3 step interview process and they are looking to hire ASAP to have CSR's ready for Christmas sales! Anyone need a cell phone???

I'm kind of excited because T-Mobile offers tuition reimbursement and I may be able to get my masters degree paid for!

My house fell through. The winning offer was $1200 more than mine. Sad There must be a better house out there for me though. I'm still looking.

Sorry about your house, but you will find an even better one!
Don't you want to go home to visit your family over Christmas and Thanksgiving?
