Why does part timers not allowed to have an email account? I think they should for better communication, especially during the slow periods when they don't work many hours. It is hard to keep everyone informed on what is going on.

That is what the communication binder in your department is for. The company doesn't want to pay for part-timers or even csa's to have access to e-mail.

In my former store (quit late last year), the part-timers were treated like janitors, so our dept. binder never had any information in it for us. One of the reasons I left was the total non-communication in our dept.

This is a consistent problem in my store and from what I read in various forums, this problem seems pervasive.

I don't believe all part time associates need email but definitely the ones who work in major departments such as Flooring, Appliances, and Lumber. If Lowe's wanted to have a standard for email access, they could even make it so CSA IV and above have email or something along those lines.

I definitely agree that the communication binder serves no purpose whatsoever. Usually the specialists and department manager in appliances where I work will print out any emails of importance.

E-mail should be provided to all associates, FT or PT. I mean we're living in the 21st century where everyone (almost) communicates via email. To deny some associates access to email diminishes their role and importance to any organization. All employees should have the right to be informed through email about important issues which affect either them or the store in which they work.

I agree that the communications binder is a big waste. Half the time it's never updated. It might have initially been a good idea but management never really stressed it's importance when we first started using it, and now it's kind of lost any significance it once may have had.

The manager in my department doesn't use the communications binder. Nope, this person just prints out the e-mails that they need to read. They then highlight the topic and leave them lying on the desks. Doesn't get around to reading these so just leaves clutter around. I pointed to the communications binder the other day and suggested that they be filed in there. The response I received was that they needed to read them still. I hate clutter. I really dislike people who procrastinate.

I don't know why anybody would want email. I have it, and its just a waste of time. Rarely is there anything worthy of reading let alone printing out and sharing. You can have mine. I check it about once a week, read maybe 1% of it. Your not missing anything.

I'm Part Time and most of the time I'm the Top Salesman! I think they would save money if everyone had e-mail so we didn't have to print useless e-mails for the binder.
