Am typing up my resignation letter to Sears now, and I must say this is one of the happiest letters I have ever written. They can take their PA's, credit apps, CSAT, censorship on blogs, and crappy pay and shove it all right up Fast Eddie's ass.

probably right there with you in a few weeks.
I know I can only work weekends at the present time, but if you can only give 5 hours and one of the two days, why am I bothering.
Might take a leave if possible.

Hope you guys either have something else or find something really soon and that your future posts are about how much better off you are somewhere else.
This is Sears' game. Just hammer you you until you can't be hammered anymore and quit so you don't cost them a few bucks. What you're doing is especially scary right now and it takes guts to do it. Best of luck to you.

Why bother with a letter of resignation? If you have another job, just give notice and you'll most likely be on instant vacation. I got moved from appliances to lawn and garden, trained for two weeks and gave notice. I was instantly let go. I already had a new job before I began training, but sitting on my ass for two weeks training just gave me a smug sense of satisfaction. Just my little way of sticking it to the man LOL!
By the way my move from HA to HI was strictly PA related. I was the #4 sales person out of 21 in terms of sales, but I was below parity on PA's. I guess they wanted to make an example out of me or something. Screw em!
I'm still bitter about how these bastards treat their associates. I spent my entire life in retail and Sears was only a part time retirement job but without question its the worst place i've ever worked.

Lucky you! You are giving me hope that I can get out of Sears too - by finding something else. Yep someone in my store recently gave 2 weeks notice - to be all professional and everything -- so they just reduced their hours from 15 to 3 as a punishment for the last 2 weeks. Not like Sears knows how to reciprocate professionalism or anything.

Thanks. Am FTA so they can't cut me below 30. But if they want to be dicks about it then let em. I just feel fortunate to be getting off the Titanic....(hears the orchestra playing)....

When I gave my notice (more then two weeks mind you), my hours mysteriously disappeared about an hour after I gave it. I just simply called up my new job and offered to start sooner

It's a scary moment. I can remember the day I decided to finally leave. Sears had been my life for 18 years. I used to love working there and loved the people I worked with. For my own sanity I can say looking back "why the hell didn't I do it sooner". I can say with certainty that the grass is indeed greener on the other side. I have yet to run into anyone that finally left Sears that has ever said they made a mistake and isn't happier where they are at now.
Best of luck to you.

I'll admit I'm nervous but it's the right thing to do under the current circumstances.

I've observed that things have a way of working out when a person takes a deep breath and makes the leap. The skill set it takes to survive at Sears is very valuable to more functional employers. And you come out of Sears a lot more educated because you know how NOT to run a business. You can turn these things into great assets in future job interviews. Most everybody knows Sears is dying, so they aren't going to fault you for jumping ship.

I've been looking for awhile I've had enough of the high stress and beyond low wage sears gives a person. Its also a blast when telling management you're tired of working for free and they just stare at you like you're talking another language. I've reached my breaking point and can't wait to jump ship ..

This coming August, I will celebrate my 1 year anniversary of enjoying the Sears-Free Lifestyle. I do plan on having a party and sending invitations to my old managers as a joke.
My current wage is 4 times that I made at the S-Hole. In fact, I was already making more then my manager the first day I was hired.
The real point should be making every effort to get out and then savor the joys of the post-Sears life.

best move i ever made. its fun driving by the old auto center when i get off of work at 5 and laughing. the money isnt that much more, but the stress is a lot easier to deal with. besides having a work environment where you can take a lunch or break whenever you want is nice.

Unless you do something different nothing will change. SEARS IS NOT looking out for the best interests of it's employees and can only be as good as it treats it's help. I worked there 10 years before I saw the graffiti on the wall. "Get Out Now"
I left in 2003. Replenishment - Receiving - "In Store Marketing" - Out The Door 4 Eva

Leave with no regrets. Sears won't have any.
Good luck. Things are much better on the outside!

Good luck to all of you who are sick and tired of the bullshit and have decided to get out while the getting is good.
I worked for S-hole for more than 20 years and have to say that for the first fifteen years it was a good place to work...The people I worked with were great but the majority of the management was, for the most part, clueless. While I was working there, I had the benefit of working with a few great SGM's.
There is life after Sears and you will be happy that you made the decision to jump ship. I know that I was.
Stay in touch and let us know how you are doing.

I too left Sears recently after 25 years of service. It was a scary move , but necessary. I was a Hardlines mgr. when I left June 30. I had just been put on a PIP because of one bad month. I feel bad for the people I left behind, and maybe there are better managers out there, but I was good for our store. But that doesnt matter anymore. I am happy in my new job, and I know deep down it was the right move. Good luck to all of you left at Sears. My parting words are the same as one of my store managers when he left : Get Your Resumes Out There!

I've already decided that I'm not going to give notice whenever I get a new job, hopefully before the next paycheck in 8 days. I just don't have means to keep earning minimum wage, especially going back to school next month. I've been indicating on applications that I can start "immediately", and if asked I will tell them I've made arrangements. I already moved out of town and there is simply no way I can keep commuting; if I run out of cash this week I won't even be able to drive to work until the next paycheck. I've actually considered getting myself fired at the end of week this so I can collect my last paycheck sooner.
