As some of you already know Canadian Lowe's have a Subway inside. Why can't a fast food franchise be utilized in the markets of the American Lowe's? Say Quizno's or Burger King for instance. That could gain potential shoppers and would provide employees a place to eat at instead of leaving the store.

There was a home depot by me which had a Nathans hot dogs in it. It lasted maybe 5 years and the food was horrible.
It would also require Lowes to get health certificates for food service. Also would the employees be lowes employees? Would they be required to leave the concession at the whim of the SM or MOD to say mix paint or cut keys?
I for one liked to leave the store when I worked a full day when I had lunch. We had some decent restaurants near the store and quite a few places did do delivery to our store.

Many stores in larger cities have food/drink options. A friend of mine worked at Albertsons running the Starbucks stand. She made a killing with the tips being an additional bonus on top of her pay.

A few things...
1) food brings up an attractant...what I mean is it will attract people
2) more trash to pick up
3) more use of bathrooms naturally
4) some things like these are company owned and others are franchises... I thought about opening a franchise awhile ago but companies are KILLING them outright. You have NO say on promotions or coupons etc.
Then you have would it be lowes employees there because that could open up some security issues...then there's the health inspection..
hd has duncan donuts in some of the stores near me...some ranted that lowes should have one...when there's THREE OF THEM ACROSS THE STREET! There's TONS of places to eat where I am. If you have money you have plenty of choices.

Yup. There are 4 places to eat in the plaza my Lowe's is in alone. Not including everything else with in a 1/2 mile.

Not too much room also in alot of new stores being built for a cafe/restaurant. Add in a walk in freezer and Im sure you wont have a happy SM.
Also, at least where Im at a safe serve certificate along with the appropriate food service certificates cost extra and employees are required to have them updated every year.
Also some stores have mice because of the bird food being sold and location. So in many respects that would at least in my location, you would have to place the cafe/restaurant in an area where the mice would not be able to get the food.

Put it up in top stock. Then escort the customers up their using order pickers.

LOL.. Good one. I should of seen it coming.. But the only problem is they have birds in the store who are pretty smart and do peck their way through the bags and the crap that falls out to the floor gets eaten by the mice (if the mice have not already open up the bags).
Unless you plan on having a show store that is mainly applainces, fashion plumbing etc. having a restaurant/cafe wont work.

The other thing to consider is with some of the code. If they sell food that means the health inspector of the town would inspect the food processing area AND the bathrooms.
At my old store there was a bbq guy that served food but per the contract they couldn't serve anything that used forks or knives...so hot dogs are ok but not say bowls of chili. It was also staged outside the exit so someone would be getting food while they leave.
There is a difference between vending and an actually eatery.

I don't think it'd be a wise idea. Imagine the mess people would leave in the buggies. Yikes, I don't like it now when people let their nasty dirty kids eat in the buggy. They spill food all over and do the parents clean it up? Hell no!
