Minimum Wage here is currently $5.75 an hour. Tennessee won't raise it any further until they have to by federal mandate.

It would be impossible to live on $5.15 an hour here, especially there.

I am glad school is going good for you. Keep at it, and remember, Macy's isn't as important as school is. I gave up The Home Depot for school and I don't regret it for a minute.

MLB $9.45 is good in my store because a lot of people at my store makes between $7.15-$7.40. Some times my store will give all new hires $7.15, $7.25, or $7.40. Rarely they will give $7.50 per hour. MLB the reason I am expecting to make close or more than $10 is because I am expecting an HEE review, and My GSM said that what I am getting. I hope I get at least 65 cents.

Is it safe to assume then that most of the associates making that are married just looking for a little extra income, students (such as money), or working multiple jobs?

I thought so! Especially for Manhattan. I live in rural Tennessee and $10 wouldn't make it for most people here. I couldn't imagine living in Manhattan on that.

Money I started at almost that as a Head Cashier for The Home Depot. I would have never made ends meet. My parents have helped me through school, but now I am moving away and will be making a nice salary (and still worry about making ends meet) in rural Georgia.

All the retailers near me start at min. wage even HD. The reason a lot of employers in new york start so low is because it is easy to find people and everybody is looking for a job. Remember I live in a big city with a lot of people looking for a new job everyday.

Good point Money.

Like MAYcylady said, you get what you pay for. You pay me $9 I will do $9, you pay me $20, I will do $20.

Money, you will not get a 65 cent raise, I PROMISE! On the bright side, this little "incident" won't show up 'till next year's review.

FOM, you are so right. I make good money, and I work my butt off and do a good job. I take pride in my work. If I was making min. wage, I would probably stand behind the register and ring, that's it. I am fully aware that I could not make what I make at Macy's if I had to start over at another job, so I make sure to earn my keep!

$10/HR! $15/HR! Wait, am I hearing this correctly. I was paid $8/HR for four freaking years with Macy's! (They wouldn't give me a raise because my SPH always was average and my credits were the low.) One of the girls I worked with got paid less than that! Oh wait, when I left they were willing to bump me up a nickel or dime! After four freaking years people! What kind pay is that? Uggggh, no wonder there is such low morale in the company!

Ex, I totally agree. The days of making big bucks at Macy's are over. The only associates in my store that receive a decent wage are the ones that were there before the buyout. And the ones that were there when Mayco bought us are making 20+/hr! You know Macy's can't wait for them to retire. I think that's why they started making us work night. Most of us are/were pt day ladies, and they knew that we did not want to work at night. Now they make ptDAY people work at night. HOW STUPID IS THAT???
But I'm hangin' in there...waiting for my package.

I thought I saw it in the news that letting MAYcylady go when Hell freezes over would not be a possibility. After hell freezes over they anticipate that there will be a rush on thermal underwear and coats.

Belk was notorious in paying cheap wages. When I was a buyer and on salary, I was paid the equivalent of $7.30/hr., as I worked 12-14 hours a day. When I came over to Rich's, I started at $8/hr., and I thought I had come to heaven. By the time we switched to Macy's, I was making $10.25/hr. and was making more than anyone else in the Home Store, excluding Furniture. After Macy's took over, I didn't get another raise. I did get some spiffs from selling Luggage which helped, but it was an easy decision to take the package. I am single and lived by myself, just above the poverty line.

at my review last year, i asked what the cap was in my store. my gsm made a copy on the xerox machine of it:
it said......macy's east compensation merit detail sheet 2007
maximum position rate: $ 11.58* (*maximum position rate may be subject to change.) my performance evaluation was HEE

the effective date of merit increase was sunday 5/6/07. first paycheck reflecting new hourly rate is friday, 5/18/07. (this was obviously from last year).

since my pay was above the $11.58, i got a merit bonus instead. a one lump sum of dough. i calculated that out with my hours worked to be about a 55 cent raise.

but a 65 cents raise, MONEY ?? um, don't think so. yeh, you're good, but macy's is gonna be cheap with business overall very dismal this year. and yes, your little "incident" might not show up till next year's review, but i think it's gonna be reflected in this year's review. it's still fresh in their minds. and you now have had 2 warnings for doing some "fishy" stuff in your store. so i wouldn't hold my breath for a big raise. i'm just saying.
