This is the kind of thing that works those who are dedicated to death and gives them RAPID burn-out! I, for one, am glad that we can be paid what we are owed. I don't know about you all, but I love working for Lowe's. It's just that they have the mentality that they OWN you. I plan on filing right in line with the others when the site is up and running. Let's all join in and get what we are owed.

When we sell something to a customer Lowe's expects that customer to pay what they owe. That's all we're asking Lowe's, that if we have money coming, to make it right, thats nothing more than they would expect.

I agree totally. When we were young and we babysat the neighborhood children, we got paid. When we had a paper route, we got paid. When we did odd jobs and things on the fly for money, we got paid. Now here we are, adults and in a career with a large company and we want to be paid for not only our physical work, but for our knowledge as well. A person who works at a place like Lowe's learns things everyday that add to the element of being a secure, desireable employee. It means job security. It means knowing your products, knowing what works and what doesn't. It means being clairvoyant enough to read each customer and deliver outstanding service and products with a smile of confidence on your face every single day. For that, the person should be paid for the many facets that their job entails. Not just marketing, knowing how to place related items on a jhook, or put the right stack out next to a hot seller. The nuances that make a person a good sales person and an asset to any company are what we are being overlooked for, in My opinion. And you are right... it's not that they can't see the solution, it's they can't see the problem.

Job security? Lowes is an AT WILL employer. This store just layed off 20 people, we were told we had to cut back 500 hours - and now its awful. Place is a mess, coming apart at the seams. Half of Those layed off felt they had job security, the rest were seasonal. The only employee I am sure will not be layed off is that cute female who "does" a couple of the managers. Hell, she just got promoted to best paying spot in the store. Managers intervene to help her do her job every week, and adjust her schedule at the last minute to arrange their mutual outings - away from their wives, I may add. She'll be working at Lowes long past the ones who bring in the customers. Job security??? This is 2003, Congress is trying to pass a law relieving employers of the burden of paying employees for overtime hours. Maybe that will fix the budget deficit.
Sound bitter? Sorry - I've seen too much nonesense at Lowes to believe in job security. USE Lowes, like Lowes uses you - get what you want out of it, but the company will not take care of you.

Ok, so I agree that 'job security' was a bad choice of words. It is what SHOULD be considered 'job security'. And yes, my store, too, has the cute little thing who gets everything she wants. She had a PTC position, but GO said PTC's had to work corporate schedules, so she bilked. They manipulated other salary jobs with people who liked where they were and did a good job to accomodate her for mon-fri 8-5 scheduling. That didn't work, because she couldn't handle the pressure of INS coordinator. So now, she works, monday - friday, coming in at 8ish, leaving at 5ish, in the money room, making the deposit, and watching the due files. And her pay never got cut one penny. And she will never have to worry about anything. Yes, I know what it's like to have a layoff in your store. We did that before. And I'm pretty sure we will be doing it again this year just before Christmas so they can make the 4th quarter look good. C'est la vie... isn't that the truth?!
I have spread the word to as many as I can in my store. I have printed out the Opt In forms for alot of those that I have spoken to. Mine have already been signed and mailed in. And I am praying for justice to see our plight and give us what we have earned at the hands of the modern day slave drivers.
