New hires have the right to change things they dont like either. They have three options. Stay and say nothing, quit and see if theres a better place or he or she can make an attempt to change things. Experience does add something to ones understanding as well as does a higher education. I think personal hands on experience would mean more but i would never count out the college education. My experiences lead me to go to college. My parents say "if you drop out of school then you will be stuck at sears forever" To me that sounds very scary to have to be victim of that. Of course if i stopped attended school i could do something other then sears but my parents i think were trying to tell me that i could end up at a low paying job all my life. Dont mean to sound snobby but where i live 20 or 30 dollars an hour could not get you far especially if you had a family. Body did you ever go to college? If so how come you decided to stay at sears?

just a random thought, i have worked a few retail spots, and have seen plenty of people who went to college and still seemed to stay with retail, don't know why, but that is what they decided....

Its my opinion that after a while they get comfortable with there job, its easy to them they feel like they have job security and maybe dont want to take the risk. You cant afford a big house or to send your kids to top notch schools doing retail. I grew up differently so i do see things from another angle. But ultimately if you are happy with what you are doing and are able to get by then by all means whatever floats your boat:)

SM... new hire wanna bes have the right to look however they want to, and Sears has the right NOT to hire them.
For those we do hire, we have the right (and the obligation) to tell them to pull up their pants (dress code) and to remove their piercings before hitting the sales floor.
It doesn't cost the associate one cent to remove the piercing to appear more professional!

I agree I was in Electronics enough to come across very far between some great kids. A young man that I was honored to work with was from Russia, very smart, mature, putting himself through college working at Sears, he got his degree left to work for a software company within two years he is a ceo of the company. Six months ago he came in and bought his appliance for his new condo he bought he is 24 years old. There are some very great kids, but most need a class in work ethics at high school level

| How do you explain the commisions on 1 percent sony camcorders. Does sears really only make enough money to give 1 percent on the gross purchase of a sony camcorder??? What do you think should be done about very low commision rates, something that has fell victim in electronics. I absolutely agree about better training. Training should be done by people not by a computer that associates now sit through. What's your thoughts on sears new way of "professionaly training people by a computer"? Do you think people should be forced to use a tearsheet to sale to customers? If you agree then it could be possible to assume that you and sears think that there is only one correct way to sell when ifact many of us know that is not true. |
When I left a few months ago, the commission rates on the new Sony Camcorders for $399 was 1/2 percent or $2.00.
I was the leading sales person in electronics the last two months and was in the draw. The week I left, 6 others left also. All of us had jobs come through at the same time.
It looks like a bunch of street mission people selling in there now.

i always love the , if you don't like it quit --- i hope i didn't read it out of context, but if things aren't right, don't we think we should try to make them right rather then just leave, or is there not a care anymore.
