It is intrusive, inaccurate, unreliable, degrading, unnecessary and unconstitutional.

Workers (and students) rights need to be protected or there won't be any rights to be had.

Some facts to back up your assertion?

Oh! And I'm moving this to Schmolitics.

I can think of a number of professions that mandatory drug testing would be ideal for:

1) Pilots (as mentioned)
2) Police
3) Military
4) Transport
5) Elected officials
6) Medical

Basically any profession that puts the fate of others in your hands is a prime candiate for testing AFAIC.

Which drugs they should be testing for and what steps are to be taken should positive results be found should be the only argument here.

edit: added #6

Oh Man, just when I was thinking of possibly running for a public office in my local political machine!
My life partner was also shocked to find out the medical field made the top six! Very Happy

Since you're the administrator and geru of the site, and our fate could depend on your ability to make the correct keystrokes, I suggest we begin r-w's "pass the cup" program to protect our interests! "Our sample needs to be from mid-stream please! Shocked

It really ails me to think that mandatory drug testing is so prevalent in the U.S.

I think of someone in the UK who just tried to evade police in a high-speed chase and who would have gotten 25 in the US, but got 9 months in the UK. I try to think of the drug addict in Belgium who would have gotten 25 in LA, but got 6 months. I try to think why we can put away a man for pretty much life for using drugs, when the rest of the civilized world gives them treatment instead. Drugs never have done anything for me, neither have I for drugs, but .... really!

i to have a problem with the drug testing policy of d.g./but not so much in the fact of having it but if having it ,make it manditory for every worker..the loss of staff might cripple the field.if they demand judgement for their workers to keep their jobs let the ax fall not selectively but blindly. Rock on! [/b]

If certain drugs are indeed illegal then why should there be any objection to the testing of them? I was recently tested for the job I applied to. Since the job I applied too was a part of the banking idustry I had to sign several documents stating that I had not been a member of any other criminal activities. Why is there such a problem with drug testing? Now I admitt that in the past I would not have passed such a test....but one has to bow to the reality of the real world. Having fun is one thing when young....but something else when grown up.

drugs are a tricky thing. i do not do any drugs. alcohol is enough for me. i do think that marijuana should be legalized, cuz it is not any bit more harmful than alcohol. but i don't think that any other drugs should be.

on the other hand. i do feel that drugs such as cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, etc, are necessary.........cuz i could always use somebody to bag my groceries.
