Has anyone heard if certain stores are going to again be open
24/7 in the days just before Christmas, or for the ultra PC crowd, in the days just before the Winter Soltice Celebration ??

Yes there are stores that will be open 24/7. Macy's has no idea that we are in an economic recession.

I would think that considering the economic situation, it would make more sense to operat during the hours that customers actually shop, but that's just me.

But that would make sense! And we all know what Macy's thinks about making sense!

I saw a schedule VERY briefly, we open @ 5am-11pm DAT. What stores are going to be open 24/7? There was some talk about it last year and nobody wanted it but you know whatever we want and/or don't want, Macy's is only concerned about the "suits" and not us, the one's that actually make the store happen! Rock on!

Last DAT we had tons of associates working the opening shift. I remember I came in 3-11:30 and I was the ONLY one in my department after 7:15. I was so pissed, I couldn't see straight. It won't happen this year. I'll call in sick.

and our store usually has the employees park off-site and take a shuttle bus to the store. This is a royal pain in the ass. The mall expanded parking last year with a 5 story parking structure and we still have to park a mile down the street. Which means instead of leaving the house 10 minutes early, now it's anywhere between 1/2 - 1 hr. early depending on how many shuttles they've got running.

Can't you just pretend you don't work there and park in a regular spot? I don't do shuttle busses.

If you're opening, they actually have mall cops at all entrances. Unless you have a mall pass, you won't be let in. Later on, you might have trouble getting a parking space. It's BAD. I remember a couple of years ago 3 days after Christmas, it took 45 minutes to get out of the parking lot. Nothing moves.

you are screwed. plain and simple.

our store had the shuttles years ago for our may store and the lord and taylor in our mall. after 2 years it was a bust. we just ignored it and parked close to the door like everyone else. they just couldn't control it. it DID make you late. very late.

they also used to block off all driving entrances to our mall on the other side and wouldn't let employees in to FORCE them to park in the outer lots. but again, they couldn't control it on our side cuz it is a HUGE wide open parking lot where you can enter anywhere.

thanks for the store opening hours, by the way.

i'll be telling my manager not to bother to schedule me for anything earlier than 9:30 cuz i won't be in any earlier. if i am scheduled earlier i still won't be in till 9:30. end of story. so dont' plan on ME being in early.

or plan #2 is to tell her i will be going out of town for thanksgiving (which is true). i really don't feel like driving over an hour home late that nite to be to work on friday.

ooh, gee. cough, cough. Sad sorry bout that. i think i'm coming down w/ something and it might hit me on november 27. uh. swine flu. yeh, that's it. Thumbs Up

Yeah, I was reading on the internet that Swine Flu is a fool proof alibi. Just don't say that you got tested for it, b/c most places aren't even doing that anymore. I think I have it right now. Razz

Actually when Macy's first started this a few years back at the hyper busy Queens Center Mall location, the first thing that I thought of was how dangerous this was.

Fast forward to 2009, and in an era of dwindling credit, cash is used for more often, and you will have all these stores open round the clock right before Christmas.

For the stores that were open 24/7 in 2008 did they at least limit the number of open entrance ways, and have a good security pressance ?

I know when Macy's did it for Herald Square in 2007, there were actually people shopping at 4:00 AM (I know I was on Christmas Eve.) People were walking out the door with shopping bags of merchandise and eating McDonalds. Last year, there were more sales associates than customers. Herald Square will be repeating it this year. It is against my religion to work any overnight shift other than inventory night.

My daughter has it this week. It's some nasty shit. The cough is awful; I thought she was gonna cough up a lung. The tamiflu that her doctor prescribed was $66!

Of course not! Why would Macy's want to protect their employees?

and i have to add also: that i love to read all the newspaper articles about people going to work sick. that they should stay home and NOT get everyone else sick, etc.

everytime i read that i feel like writing in to say, "well, i guess you don't include macy*s when you are talking about employers, because they practically demand you to come in if you truly are not dying. they don't care if you are sick. they think everyone is faking it".

i swear i'm gonna do it. if i see another article, i swear i will do it !!!!
