Oh yippee, I guess we are all going to be held up one by one in the huddle as the lousiest employees in the whole world and told how the decline of this company is all our fault. I can hardly wait, I'm marking this on my calender.

Some kind of huge announcement that everyone has to be in attendance to hear.

Ahh yes...another waste of time, just like "Sowing The Seeds", "Operation Dog & Pony Show", and "Core and Compliance".
More than likely, this is to kick off the Xmas marketing campaign, using "Renaissance" as the buzzword.

Tool God: Sowing the Seeds is the first thing I thought of too. Nothing will change - looks like it'll be 8 hours of feel-good bullshit videos / scripted meetings. I had a hard time sitting thru Sowing the Seeds... thank god I'll be missing this.

Oh happy day! Why do we need another 3 or 4 hour meeting to tell us what we are doing wrong? We already know we are worthless and weak. If management needs to feel better about themselves by bashing us again for a couple hours more power to them.

Of course it will have to do with PA's. It always boils down to PA's. 1/4 of it will be about pumping everyone up for Christmas and about all of these big plans and marketing promotions the company has that will either never get off the ground or fall completely flat. The other 3/4 will be devoted to PA's.
I really don't understand why the company even keeps it's doors open. Sears lost interest in actually selling something about 10 years ago. The only folks interested in actually selling something is the associate. Hitting sales goals without PA parity is a no-no. Hitting PA parity while missing sales goals means you are a frikkin genius needing promotion.
It's time to stop the charade. Stop trying to be be a merchant. 9 straight years and 36 straight quarters of SSS declines at some point HAS to tell you that selling stuff isn't a priority. Close the stores, and operate as the retail AIG, just sell insurance, credit, and come up with some exotic commdity to lable it as and gamble on Wall Street with it. It's obvious it's all Eddie knows anyway.

I've had the Hardlines meeting already. Its 3 hours of video and group sessions on closing sales. According to corporate, the meeting is necessary because their polling data shows that once customers leave Sears, they don't come back. Therefore, we need to be vigorously trained on how to close the sale the first time we engage the customers on the salesfloor using the "tools" corporate gives us salespeople.

Are you sure the meeting isn't about how we are going to get the customers in on black friday and sell them a front loader at half price and then not make delivery on it til April like last year?

I would agree with corporate on this. I find that unavailablity of product contributes to this., as does the "delivery rebate' (when it's O elsewhere). Or the price match I just can't match because it's fishy. I too have oversold, and over informed. But then again the high PA price can deter the customer. I'm one to buy and use the PA., but in these tough times., it's hard enough just to replace what's broke.

LOL LOL LOL
Who the frack needs polling data to determine once customers leave Sears they don't come back.
Helloooo; how about a DECADE of SSS DECLINES
And yeah it's the usual suspects like un-necessary PA & credit pressure,in stock, availability, assortment, price, competent associates with experience etc.
Helloooo: it is NOT about closing sales.
More useless processes from the bozo brigade of retail.

Could it be customers don't come back because the company spends all it's time figuring out how to "close" and overcome objections to ridiculously overpriced PA's rather than recognizing and serving the actual needs of customers? The downward spiral continues...

I heard from my manager that he's planning two things (so far)...in-store scooter races and a ping pong tournament. So while I'm inclined to believe that they're going to ramp up both the PA and credit pressure, as per usual, they're going to cloak it in fun and games.

Don't forget the buttering up with coffee & donuts. And near the end when everybody can't wait to get the heck out of there they'll have you sign a seemingly harmless pledge or something ... GOT YA !
Read.think and consider the future ramifications of anything you sign at the meeting in particular.

Hmmm close the sale the first time the customer is in the store huh? OK well here's some thoughts....
1. Have the shit available.
2. Have delivery able to actually deliver the shit when they say they can and not damage it in the process.
3. Don't ask the customer 4 times to buy a PA that costs 10x's more than it actually should.
4. Try bringing the interest rate on SGMC's down from loan shark levels.
5. Have stores that don't look like they were built in the 70's, playing music from the 40's.
Just a few random thoughts. God I'm glad I'm not with this jacked up company anymore.

So, we've talked about the PA, which will be the center of the whole presentation. Now, here's the REAL question:
What merchandise, that "everybody HAS to have", is being rolled in to affix the PA TO?
Appliances are down. Because of the government-subsidized TV transition, TVs are pretty much stagnant (real good timing on the govt's part). No new game system. BluRay players could be, but prices have leveled off. E-Book systems like the Amazon Kindle and Barnes&Noble's Nook are basically proprietary to the respective seller. Navigation systems and digital cameras are also dead in the water, worn out from last Christmas promos.
Maybe Sears should try to get a ton of the new Elmo doll. Retail for say $79.99 and affix a "PA" of $299 to it and see if those customers storm the doors.
