This morning on the Today show, they interviewed Deborah Norville. Apparently she has written a book about "respect" and its importance in today's world, among family, friends and in the workplace.
Meridith asked her if she had any examples of companies following this belief in their workplace. She responded........are you ready?............wait for it........are you sitting down?............ "Yes, I interviewed Terry Lundgren CEO of Macy's and several years ago his company merged with another and he brought about a procedure so everyone's voice could be heard and they could all voice their concerns!"
Oh really! Well no one asked for my opinion! And excuse me Ms. Norville but I have worked for alot of different companies and not one beats Macy's as far as their LACK of RESPECT for their employees!

"MACY'S is not flexible. YOU must be flexible." "This is a business, not a family." "We need you to be SUPER Sales Associates, I want each of you to search your hearts and decide if this is the job for you, and if not, find something else to do."
Yeah, I felt so respected when I heard these statements.

No, this is what my SM was instructed to say to us when Macy's first took over. SM's were told to give us the message that Macy's is not flexible.

Yeah, they were also told to "weed out" those of us that didn't truly want to be here. Okay, that's probably all of us! BUT we have been loyal to our company and worked hard for all of these years, and will leave when we want to, not when some snotty SM tells us that we should so that they can replace us with some min. wage newbie that will last 2 weeks!

OK, what do you folks do when there is a newbie in your dept. and "just takes off"? I mean she just leaves without telling anyone. I've told her many times that she NEEDS to tell us when she leaves so the register is covered. (we get in trouble for standing behind the register doing nothing. but we actually are doing something, it just looks like we're doing nothing)

I tell my manager and then the manager does nothing about it because no manager wants to deal with confrontation.
