Major story on the news this morning. Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize. Just how did this get pulled off? He hasn't done anything.

The prize isn't given as a popularity contest but for promoting peace. In a day and age when there's nothing but wars and such going on, maybe the best the committee could come up with is someone who hasn't done anything to IMPEDE peace.
I really have no axe to grind here, but those who are screaming about it on the basis that Ronald Reagan and George W Bush never got one... hell I never got one either.

nofs - didn't IMPEDE peace
That about sums it up for me as well. If I have an ax to grind with Obama it's his political payoff Olympic bid but not this.

Maybe you are right but it still comes as a shock. I thought Reagan should have gotten one but but both Bushes didn't even need consideration, although there have been controversial choices in the past as well.

I think the reason why Reagan didn't get one is for the plain fact that he just spent the Soviet Union into submission. He built more guns than they could and just about bankrupted them. Mind you, it worked, but it was peace achieved by building more arms than they could afford.
I don't understand Obama winning either, but it's way down the list on my radar.

Reagan bankrupted the Soviet Union by spending us into debt that our descendants into the next three generations wouldn't have been able to pay off. His policies have now pretty much bankrupted the United States. Anyone who thinks this mess we're in just grew suddenly starting January 20th of this year has a pretty short attention span.
Obama may not be handling the situation to my liking... in fact, he ISN'T handling the situation to my liking. He's increased the Reagan/Bush/Clinton/Bush debt and the American workiing class is indeed worse off than they were when he took office. But this doesn't mean they weren't in sorry shape already BEFORE he took office. This doesn't mean the debt was not already unpayable (with the Chinese owning half of it no less) BEFORE he took office an so on right down the line..
I DO think some of the things he has done and is doing have made the situation worse in fact. As far as I'm concerned, he's bending over backward to appease the self entitled "nobility" in this country and, as a mere serf, I will never calmly accept that by any politician of any stripe.
But Obama did not CREATE this situation and the refusal of those who were actually responsible for laying the foundations and bringing the situation largely to fruition to accept any responsibility whatsoever and their open opposition to ANYTHING that might benefit the people as a whole instead of the one percent at the very top... well, that's a whole 'nother dog we're talking about.
