I have to mute the Sears commercials and look away - there are just too many of them - it seems like Sears spends way to much money on these commercial spots - and again there are just too many ideas on them - they can't seem to find an idea and stick with it. For instance - if your watching one show and every five minutes - there is a Sears commercial - or you are home one night and all all channels and networks - there are Sears commercials. Does anyone know how much this company spends on advertising?

Never enough. That should be the answer from an employee's perspective. "Too many/much" would be an answer from a customer's perspective.
Advertising is responsible for the largest percentage of footsteps in the door. Business 101. Especially in these times where people are clutching onto their dineros more than ever, you want the company out there flashing their name and their deals more than ever.

Yeah, I was just thinking... this is the first time I'd heard someone complain about there being tooo many Sears commercials since Eddie took over. Once of the first things he did was slash the ad budget to the bone.
I would think that anyone in commissioned sales would be welcoming all the advertising they could get right now.

The Brett Favre commercials are outstanding. Gotta hand it to Sears on that idea.

They might too hip. This BlueCrew stuff really doesn't push the other basics besides service(which is yet to be seen in high quality practical execution). When advertising you have got to push product AND price(not A promise but an actual product and price). Especially in this economy and not a hedgefund manager's economy run amuck.
HD just ran a 10% off appliances with no HD cc. That's what you have to do. I think alot of those 10 sec 15% off etc type adds are probably just as effective because they include an actual discount.

LuisLuis, you must be up at three AM watching local cable access if your seeing too many "Holdings Corp" ads. The facts don't support it.

Sears axes ad budget as sales slide
By: Natalie Zmuda Aug. 24, 2009
(Crain's) — As Sears Holdings grapples with slow sales and a tough economy, its ad budget has gotten the ax.
In its fiscal first quarter, the retail giant slashed its advertising expenses by $107 million. That was followed by a $45 million cut in the second quarter. In 2008, the retailer cut $94 million from its advertising budget.
|
| Quote: |
| Interim Sears Holdings CEO W. Bruce Johnson highlighted the company's cost-cutting efforts in a statement. "While the overall retail market remains difficult and its impact is reflected in our results, we continue to take actions to increase the efficiency of our operations," he said. "We have reduced our selling and general administrative expenses by approximately $1 billion over the past four quarters, including a reduction of $212 million this quarter." |
Shit, even the acting W. Bruce said it was true. ~GoodFella

Nope I was home during prime time viewing hours - and watching some popular shows - every 5 minutes was a Sears commercial. Just the major networks - not cable extras. Even when I surfed off of it - there was another one on another channel. Now the last thing I want is to be hearing about Sears on my time off - so I used the mute button alot. Hey I know the company needs and wants to make money - and I know there are people who are happy working there - just thought it was too many commercials too close together.

I do see a lot of ads, goodfella. Maybe some regions are being targeted more than others?
I see at least one a half hour if and when I do sit down and actually watch television. Most of the time I keep it on for background noise while I do my studying and homework...

I think a couple of reasons for seemingly more commercialsl is they are more memorable if not effective. Even though it doesn't mean squat you can remember blue crew...and Sears. And being associated with Sears you are more aware of Sears commercials.
That pull from GF is correct from what I've read since the ESL crew took over. I thought I read where mr ed was going to go with more 10 second commercials and go for certain demographics. The problem is though there is not enough product AND price commercials.
Again the Blue Crew commercials might be hip & cool but do they really bring customers into the store. Especially AT their time of need. Since the blue crew targets hardlines you have to hope the next time someone's appliance breaks down they will think blue before they think Gene Hackman & Lowes.

I think we run a lot of commercials but isn't that what we would want? We all complain how Sears is dead in the water to the other retailers and now we are going to complain we advertise too much? If we didn't advertise at all then the complaint would go that no wonder we are dead, we never have any commercials. I think it's great we hired Brett Favre and fixed the joke about procastenaters that can't make up their minds into it. My only complaint, and this is only because I'm in home improvement, that all the commercials are for appliances and electronics. We are supposed to be part of the Blue Crew now, how about giving us some love? I don't think there is any such thing as too much advertising if you want to get customers in your store.

Yeah, what about adverts for other departments? Of course, I can't remember the last time I've seen a commerical for the...er, softer side of Sears.
Wait. I think I did see a clothing commerical a few weeks ago...

Cable DOES have its advantages. Only time I see a Sears or Kmart commercial is on Lifetime or WE or maybe ESPN every once in a while.
They're probably getting bargain-basement rates on NBC -- the worst performing of the "old" TV networks. If you're seeing them on "The Biggest Loser" .... how appropo.
