Today was by far the worst ever for signing my dept. We took a picture of them it stood over 2 feet high. Doubles and triples of everything, not to mention that there were 3 sets of signs to go up today. The 10-5 signs, the 5:30 to 9 signs, and of course the 10/5-10/08 or the ones replacing those with end date of 10/18. When I left we still weren't done yet at 9:00, we stayed open til ten, though i know not why , store was dead ,When the Steelers are playing this town comes to a grinding halt. I threw away so many unneeded signs that I had to have a stockperson remove my trash bags with a cart because they were too heavy to move by hand. Multiply that fiasco by 900 stores and we are personally responsible for about 5 acres of timber for just this one sale. Just think if we recycled all those signs, we alone could keep some trucking company in business just hauling it away to a recycle plant.

I agree.
The worst I'VE ever seen.
" Let's see Mr. Customer, I'm not sure what the price of this washer is....it could be the before 5 PM price, the AFTER 5 PM price....or wait....the sears.com price....or the price it's going to be tomorrow. or the price it is now.... but be assured....I'm the damn Sears Appliance BLUE CREW and ....
I'll price match my best price!!!!"

It was terrible. TERRIBLE. We didn't get the email about the signs being all screwed up until we sorted them all and put them in a pile. When we found out we had to separate each sign and find the duplicates and triplicates.
Ugh.

The signs were horrible - it was so confusing we finally just decided to get rid of all of the sale signs - sale promo signs for the whole day - and place up signs saying that our in store price is lower on all items (like an all on sale) and to ask your salesperson for more details - this way we could compare online pricing vs in store pricing vs incorrectly previously dated ended signing vs - before and after 5 signing
Today - when I get in, I think we will be then making new signs that we hope are in the system correct.
I never saw such a confusing day for sales - it showed in total sales too - the customers were confused too much to know which price to accept - especially since so many came in expecting 10 percent off the 25 percent sale running the previous 2 days

I hate it when I get new signs that replace signs that are "still good."
Like yesterday, a lot of cookware decided to go up in price even though the old signs were good until like 10/18. It's frustrating because I know I told at least one customer the previous day that a cookware set they were looking at was going to be on sale at that low price until 10/18 because that's what the sign said! So I left that sign behind the new sign and I'll be honoring the previous price if they do come in to buy it.
Sears--make up your mind!

Heh-
Brandmaster, do you work at my store? We had the same issues with signs, and agreed that the Steelers can clear out a store.
Thank god I don't work in appliances though.
All that paper waste was utterly rediculous.

Some of the vacuum cleaners, trimmer and blowers had double signs also with different prices also with the same dates, had to plu them just to see what was going on so that took longer to set signs up.
I saw all those sign for BC and couldn't believe the waste of paper. I just get sick sometimes seeing how much paper is wasted.

It's times like these that I'm glad I'm not in that area anymore. Just stand around and sell.

On stuff like F&F or the Sat moring sales too me they should just sign what's advertised just so the customer can find it. If a customer is responding to one of those timed sales more than likely they have a specific item in mind-not shopping or browsing. They might want to go to a different dept but they don't care what the other 2 dozen drills costs. The existing signing should be enough. If's there's math in a percent off someone will just have to figure it out.
The whole idea of those promotions is to get people into the store and not just buy the alleged door buster.
GFG mentioned sick sig - ironically sick sig is supposed to help control costs which doesn't happen when you cut a forest down for a few branches. But I doubt the black belts have figured the transportation costs of that paper to the stores.

In my district HA Associates are responsible for all HA signing.
You can have them come in a few hours before the store is open, and since they're 100% commission, you get your signing done for free.
