After the story broke several sued Sears. One of them still might progress.

I think the destroy all data obtained part was Federal Trade Commission FTC.

The blog sums it up well. It wasn't even a slap on the wrist-it was a gentle touch.

I guess this is where all those campaing contributions pay off. Even though most of the heads of these Federal agencies have been replaced many of the employees and/or lower appointments/hires are still there. As with many a government job you still need a political reference.

Decapitation doesn't work in an organization crammed with political hacks.
