It looks like they are going to do something more than just polish the shelves and hooks:

"They've got Kmart ready to take a standing eight-count next year," says retail consultant Burt Flickinger III, managing director for Strategic Resources Group and a veteran Walmart watcher"

My favorite part of the article is "they listened to their customers" Unlike Sears who completely ignores them.

Isn't it odd how Walmart is focusing on how to sell more during this rough economy, and actually putting money into it, where SHLD is still actively looking at ways to reduce costs and scuttle stores. Show's where thier priority is vs SHLD's.

Agreed.
Walmart, to me seems to be doing just fine w/o doing anything,, ain't broke, don't fix it right? but on the other hand, never be too complacent. new ways, new looks to bring in customers curiosity which results in them being in the check out line.
Sears, times are tuff, lets squeeeeeeeeeezeee!! shut stores as you said Cal, but you forgot another aspect, lets raise the price on PAs!!!! lets raise more prices!!! thats the ticket.!!
Sears = Fucking Retards.

Just because a PR guy quoted in a puff story says they listened to their customers doesn't make it true. I'm sure whoever the SHLD board pays to do PR would say the same thing.

You are correct JH, however Walmart is actually doing something for the customers. That is not an option at SHLD.

As a current Sears employee, and former, long term Wal-Mart employee, I see nothing but good, good, and good, with those ideas. As much as I'd love to trash them to the ends of the Earth, they've done right here.

JH is right it's basically a bunch of PR on all the little things they've been doing. Although my last trip into a Walmart 2 weeks ago was appauling-so much for less clutter and customer service. The place was a disaster area. I checked out hardlines and half the merchandise wasn't behind the correct bin/price tag. Consumables were the only things that seemed in order even though depleted. And that's probably because they are replenished the most.
That being said Walmart has been more proactive than Sears this entire decade. Yeah the meglomania/lawsuits are catching up but at least they do listen to the customer a little more. Several times this decade they have tried delving into higher priced big ticket merchandise to no avail. And they dropped back to lower price points/merchandise with-in months of realizing it wouldn't work. Sears were be in the 2nd or 3rd year of an experiment.
That was a PR article which is all to common for corporations up to something.
Oh and one last thing . The Kmart and the standing count thing . It won't be next year because it has already been happening the entire decade. When Kmart lost the .10 cent toothpaste battle it WAS game over.

Proof is in the pudding JH, don't be foolish. Look at Walmarts prices and look at Sears'.
And can you recall the last time Sears did anything for their customers.?? Don't think so.

Walmart is the only store I go into where I feel a gang war could break out at any second, and that's just the employees.

The only actual outbreak of gang fighting I ever witnessed was in the mall just outside the front door of our Sears and it wound up inside the store when the police showed up.
