Fantastic, thanks bc5yr. There is one statement made there, that is 100% true, that can not be argued against by the political right, is this: By law, for-profit corporations are supposed to put their shareholders’ interests first: this means that they must strive to maximize profits. And this goes a long way toward explaining why U.S. healthcare is so expensive.

And why it should have stopped being profit driven years ago. What's happening now is that the insurance companies own the rights to health care and they simply ration it (isn't that what a lot of the opponents claim reform will do?) based on who they can make the most money from.
The right can scream from now until doomsday about their right to profits and legalities... the fact is that shareholders are taking precedence over the life and death of ordinary citizens.
The whole concept of for profit health care boils down to you have a right to live if you can grease our palms with enough silver to make it worth our while to let you. That's about as sick as you can get.
