The other day, it was announced that we had to sell about 1,000 "shop for the cause" tickets by this next Friday. They gave us a little game card of "tic-tac-toe" and if we got a line, then we could be in a drawing for an iPod. The squares included, SFAC, credit & TFS. My co-worker sold a ton of SFAC yesterday and then late yesterday she found out that the rules changed and all of a sudden "tic-tac-toe" changed to blackout bingo. Doh!

When she found out, she was pissed and today she didn't even push SFAC, she only pushed TFS where the $$$ is.

I'm done with the games, cards, bingo, and all that crap. I don't even ask to get paid out for accounts anymore, since it's all Macy's Money.

If they paid me in BACON, then we'd be talking.

I think the entire company is way behind on SFAC. they never should have done TFS and SFAC at the same time. A customer got really mad at one of my co-workers today. She said she is tired of being asked by all of us for donations every time she walks in the store. And then added that we were lucky she was even buying anything at all!

my co-worker that I mentioned in a prior post brought up a good point. You see Macy's is selling SFAC for $5 from every customer. then Macy's takes ALL that money and donates it to whatever charity. Macy's gets the tax deduction, NOT THE CUSTOMER.

ok, ok, calm down, FOM. sigh.

i was pushing tons of shop for a ripoff , i mean sfac, then suddenly when thanks for nothing appeared, NO ONE , not one manager even mentionied the sfac again. me and 3 other people were selling them all, promising us that our names would be drawn every week to win a $25 gift card. don't think that's been done for weeks.

now as soon as you come in, the managers, and i mean ALL of the managers, not just yours, are on our case/buss/up our asses, - pick one- hassleing us about selling the TFS !! i am so sick of it. now with charity day being this saturday, they suddenly realize they need to sell 1,000 more by then. heh. good luck on that.

today i was in the middle of helping some customers find the right size jeans and this manager starts in with me. she said in her best threataning and bitchy tone, "i'll be back later to talk with you". and of course as she walked away, i said, "oh, i can't wait, you do that" or some deragatory thing that i usually do.... sigh.
i got one later, but cuz i wanted to, not cuz i was afraid miss bitch would be back. did she ever come back? no. she is such a jerk. she's only been a gsm for a few months. she was a PART TIME NITE cosmetic associate. don't know how she parlayed that into full time bitch manager.
oh, now i get it. the bitchier they are, the quicker they get a promotion in our store. i am convinced of that. it isn't the first time it has happened.

this is going to be a long christmas season.......

this might be the day the SM taks to me... I'll just have to have a steady dose of The Beatles before I go in.

Yeah, we just had one promoted too. She used to be nice, but now she tries to talk down to me all of the time. When she does, I make sure to say something smart to make her look stupid. She'll learn.

I speak slowly, making direct eye contact, and choose my words deliberately.

Kind of like if I was addressing a whiny, spoiled five year-old.

Works every time.

If I have more than a handful of days like today between now and Christmas, it will take a million margaritas to calm me down.

That's right, Polli.

Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed that the tone in my store's communications has become harsher and sharper in the last couple of weeks.

Not much carrot, but a great big stick.

Putting team members on the defensive at every turn.

Requiring initials on EVERY kind of communication imaginable.

Pushing, pushing, and more pushing.

I no longer trust NO ONE in a manager position, not even those with whom I've been friends for several years.

And above all, chaos and confusion in the excution of freakin' EVERYTHING on the sales floor.

I've been in this store for nearly a decade of holiday seasons. This one is shaping up to be quite unpleasant. Perhaps the worst I've seen in terms of lack of simple respect (or simple disregard) for fellow associates.

My prospects for positions outside of Macy's are getting brighter by the week. I hope to have some news -- good or bad -- next week. It's long past time to say goodbye.

I learned the hard way NOT to trust ANYBODY. I can't tell you how many time I've been thrown under the bus.
With the report cards why do we need to be baby sat every freaking minute of the day? I wonder if after a year of this bullshit, what will they conclude?

Do you suppose the corporate bigwigs are "graded" every week! Do they get these stupid report cards evaluating what they accomplished or didn't accomplish that week?

All I know is that there's a lot of paper-shaking and finger-pointing when numbers fall below some arbitrary level.

And I have to say it: I have never seen THIS MANY PEOPLE TRY TO RUN A STORE. Whether it's store-level, divisional, regional, or some bigshot from the national level, they're all trying to create strategies, merchandise the floor, or change policies. AND NO TWO OF THEM AGREE ON ANYTHING!!! Until this fall, my store had been pretty stable and smoothly-run. That changed several weeks ago. I don't know why.

Now, there's a petty meanness running loose.

I've never seen empty fixtures and blank wall spaces go unfilled for weeks at a time. I've never seen the store partly-decorated with holiday trim in a hit-and-miss fashion this late in the season because the guidelines and visuals aren't readily available. I've never seen merchandise get arranged and re-arranged and re-re-arranged on the floor -- it all depends on who's just visited. And the housekeeping and supplies standards just keep falling.

And worst of all, I have never seen this many people in leadership roles who seem as baffled by the situation as I do on the selling floor. I am an excellent salesperson. But I can't continue to take pride in my job if these circumstances continue, or escalate, as I fear they will.

Actually yes, corporate people are also held accountable for scorecards.

Our fixtures are so full that the merchandise falls off when someone walks by. Ever since the "transition" in May, we've got double order of everything. Gads, we can open a "Carters" store within Macy's.
Yea, re-arranged EVERYDAY. Embarrassing when you walk with a customer to where it was "yesterday" and it not be there today.

Housekeeping, well lets just say we had a major Jamba Juice spill last week and no janitor one was working. A manager came up and cleaned the floor. I told her that I don't do clean-ups because it wasn't in my job description. But our toilet paper is improving; it's poke proof now!!

I confess, I've been off since last Thursday and won't be back til next Tuesday. I leave for the ocean tomorrow!!!! Friday is my b-day!!

Well if the schedulers are graded, they should have had failing grades long ago and shouldn't still be working at Macy's! Same with the regional who never speaks to any of the lowly associates.

Well said, huds! I have been feeling the same but thought perhaps it was just my store! We had empty fixtures sitting out on the floor for 2 weeks. The customers started using them as garbage cans!

So...corporate people are held accountable for what us lowly salespeople cannot control. I have a couple of tips for corporate: spend a little money and have the salesfloor adequately staffed with KNOWLEDGEABLE associates, don't make customers hunt around for an associate, just to find out that he/she doesn't know anything b/c they were the cheapest hire Macy's could get off of the street. Where would you get this money? How about operating during hours that you are actually making money???? Along with saving overhead expenses, scorecards would be better b/c the hours that associates worked would be SELLING hours, not cricket chirping hours. Those hours benefit no one!
