Ex Homeland Security head Tom Ridge apparently made comments to the effect that security threat levels were used for political gain.
It's sort of a duh but never the less it shows how events can manipulated if not orchestrated.

I don't want to go all conspiracy and 9-11 here but if nothing else this shows how a government can at the very least exploit a perceived threat for political advantage. The administration doesn't have to orchestrate the preliminary events but they sure as don't mind capitalizing on or exploiting them .

You know, I'm not all that quick to buy into Tom Ridge's little puff pieces for his book. Not that I don't think that it didn't happen or that our government wasn't... and isn't today... capable of such flim flammery... but I'm thinking that his waiting until now, when he had a book to sell, to say anything about it says something for his own credibility.
I'm one of those "Why didn't he speak up then?" skeptics. If it was "worth resigning over", why didn't he resign? Or better yet, speak out and get fired? Would have damned sure given him a few more street creds than his obviously self serving revelations do now.

Yeah I see what you mean about speaking up earlier & for a book BUT it could be there are more revelations to come about the last administration and he wants his place in history secure.
But if I am not mistaken didn't Ridge and other Homeland Security officials get canned or forced to resign after the Hawaiian Conference scandal where 20/20 caught them poolside middle of the day with cocktails and not at meetings.

Could be... but it's one of those grain of salt things with me at this point. Again, I have no doubt whatsoever that they WOULD do it. In fact I was amazed that we got through the whole election cycle without SOME kind of major flap. Possibly because so MANY people were expecting it I suppose.
