Lowe's won't return as title sponsor of Charlotte track
Well, sort of...
Quote:
Sources said it's not inconceivable for Lowe's to change its mind, given that five months remain on the current deal and the unpredictable nature of the economy, but such a change of heart is considered unlikely.
Cuttin' corners to save a few bucks, eh?
Quote:
The Lowe's deal with Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports expires at the end of 2010 and those renewal talks are expected to begin later this year. Industry sources say that Lowe's will be expected to pay a hefty increase to maintain its position as the only primary sponsor on Johnson's No. 48 car, which is uncommon in this time of co-primary and "tri-mary" sponsorships on a car. The most expensive sponsorships go for the mid-$20 million range annually.

How much revenue does owning/sponsoring that racetrack generate for Lowe's? Does it help keep inventory on the shelves in all of the stores? THAT is what is important in this day and age not watching someone making a left turn.

Reminds me of this upset customer we had a long time ago. Guy stomps off to the exit, stops, turns around and walks back to the customer service desk and says, "And by the way, Jimmie Johnson sucks."

man...
out of the three and a half years at lowes only once have I heard a customer say anything about racing...simply asked if I was going to watch it...I was kinda taken back...
1) what makes you assume because I work there that I would like nascar
2) what makes you think the company would give time off to watch the race?
It has it's place don't get me wrong but if putting a logo on a car doing what...150mph is the primary way to get peoples attention then they have a very poor marketing team!
Sponsor locally...not nationally.
The biggest venue for anything is the superbowl...but since there's no flashy new thing lowes has coming out it would be pointless to advertise there. Why not local sports teams? Why not billboards at high schools...
A race is on tv once a week (not counting the truck series)...big deal...that's only on one channel out of the 500 or so people are watching now. Why not try minor league sports.
To be fair they did sponsor the gold cup which at least shows they are targeting more of a latin american community.

Nascar TV ratings are way down. So much there is talk about FOX not picking it back up after their contract with Nascar expires next year. Nascar attendance at the track is down across the board. Lowe's needs to reconsider it's contractural obligations with Jimmie Johnson, et al, which has to run into the tens of millions of dollars a year. Maybe it's a regional thing, but there isn't a single person at my store who ever talks about Nascar. Pro football, baseball and basketball (even hockey) ... yes. Lowe's needs to seriously re-think the ways it allocates its advertising dollars.

Its ok..the only business Lowes is ever really into at any given time, is their employee's business. This place operates to fuck americans around, all the while pumping our homes full of their shit products. And running their employee's crazy. Lowes sucks

I got a customer really upset at me a few years ago when they mentioned something about "Jimmy Johnson" and I said "Who?"
I'd have to care something about NASCAR in order to care less.
be well - Wendall

Wouldn’t it be nice if instead of sponsoring a bunch of grease monkeys Lowes chose a worthy cause like McDonalds with the Ronald McDonald House, or StJudes Children Hospital? The companies that sponsor worthy charities get their publicity and help others at the same time.

That's a good observation (@Specialist)...how much care could the millions spent on cars going nowhere very fast in a circle gain for families in need of such?
