But I have made it clear: I NEED TO GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS. I WILL NOT DO THIS AGAIN!!!!

I asked my fellow associate today if she would put me out of my misery and shoot me. "I won't tell on you," I said.

And then the merchandising manager today said, "Christmas is right around the corner!"

Shocked

Getting back to the dress code thing, I purposely wore white cargo pants and a real pretty DKNY apricot colored flowy blouse. No managers said anything, but I DID get TWO complements from customers on the blouse. "Did you get that here?"

See, all black is not good for business!

Are you kidding me? No one said anything about not having black on? You would have been sent home in my store.

supposedly our new dress code doesn't go into effect until Jan 1. I bought a boys black vest for $12 and I will wear that to DEATH UNTIL IT FALLS OFF ME.

My GSM tell us there are more changes coming. She is from a former MAY Co. store, so these up coming changes are no surprise for her.

Along with the dress code and report cards, starting tomorrow (Sunday) when we open/close the register, we have to count ALL THE COINS TOO making sure we have a drawer of $150 exactly! This is going to take forever! In the morning, the rally last for a good 15 minutes, so how in the hell are we going to count ever penny, etc. before the store opens when we have multiple registers to open? And at closing: we ALL have those last minute customers who come in five minutes before the store closes and take their sweet ass time shopping after the closing announcement. AND DO RECOVERY AND GO-BACKS? I THINK NOT.

She even said that the scheduling is changing. Hey, as long as I get my Mon/Wed off, I don't care.

As I said previously: Macy's sucks the life out of me.

yeh, where have you been / we've been counting all thecoins for YEARS and YEARS !!! our drawers are always $200 !

when we are scheduled for 9:30 and the store opens at 10, the rally doesn't start till 9:45 so we have more than enough time to open registers in those 15 minutes. if you don't have time, we do it AFTER the store opens. i mean, really, there are hardly any customers at opening anyway.
Doh!

Sorry, but in the 4 years I've been there, we've never counted coins. Always had $125 and the rest (10's, checks, etc.) went to deposit.

Are you kidding me? We have people beating down the doors at 10 all the time. Especially on Sundays at 11 when the local church gets out.

We are always scheduled at 9:45 unless it's Friday, then 9:30 because the SM is long-winded. And the rally goes for the full half/quarter hour.

Macy's Insdier is quite right. All the Bloomingdale's associates were also wearing black.

One guy looked sad, kind of like he was going to a funeral! Rock on!

Course a trip to Bloomingdale's is always interesting. They were giving out Espresso in the home store!

At night I always count the drawer early and write the amounts down. They when it is closing I have everything already counted and just fill in the amounts. We too have counted coins for years. Just like the CRL's it will get easier.

We've always counted coins, too. We're a tight-knit group in my department, so when we close each register at night, we leave a slip in the drawer listing the amount of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters (change is never pulled out for deposit). That way, all the opening associate has to do is enter the change amounts and count out the bills. Takes less than a minute. No big deal, really.

You'll be fine. Trust. Smile Smile Smile

That's a good idea about leaving a note. I'll ask the other two gals.

Counting the coins are a pain in the ass. Since this is all new for us, we didn't know how many of what were in the rolls of coin. I'm going to make a cheat sheet and maybe a blank form for the suggested count for the morning crew.

OK wise-guys. Like I stated earlier, we've never done this before so it's new and time consuming.

I'm sure once we get the hang of it, we'll be as efficient (or better) than the east coast.

PS. we don't have dimes

PSS. at the end of a hectic day (yesterday), we can't even add 1 + 1 (and I got straight A's in algebra)

I would count them for yourself, not take someone else's word for what's in the drawer. It's really not a big deal, it might take 2 minutes of your time. You'll get the hang of it.

Never, never take someone else's word for what is in the drawer! If money is missing you are both responsible. Through my 25 years in retail I have known many people who have "borrowed" from the register fund!

what is this counting how many actual coins are in each roll??

c'mon people, this is NOT rocket science.

you scoop up the pennies and count em.....38 cents. ok, key in 38 cents.

nickels...if it is only a roll and it is unopened...you key in the amount - $2.00 !!! you don't key in how many actual coins are...you key in the amount of money !!! you do this for everything. i've been doing it this way for 18 years. not hard, really.

i saw some gal keying in the amount of coins---say, 38 coins instead of $3.80 . i was like, "why on earth are you doing it the hard way " ???
oy. Doh! Doh! Doh!

Can you still enter the number of each type of coin? We used to do that with the old mayco registers, before we got smart registers. But I'm with you, Normarae, just add it up and put it in!

Yes, in fact when they train newbies on the registers they are instructed to enter the exact number of coins instead of the dollar amount. Either way works.

I forgot about that. We have had them for a few years now. I always just count the coins. I guess putting the number of coins in helps to prevent human error, unless you can't count how many coins you have!

OMG, I forgot all about the actual value of coins. Doh!

Gads we were told to enter the number of coins and hit the * key which will populate the amount.

Oh, shit almighty, I feel like a dope now. That is easier. Thumbs Up
