Just saw that my store is open 9am - 9pm on Memorial Day and hear that it will be the same for July 4th. Are all stores doing this?
By the by, WHERE IS EVERYONE???

Aren't those normal hours?
Yeah, where is everyone?
Oh yeah.. Has anyone ever heard of or shopped at a store called Aldo?
I thought it was only women's stuff, but I walked past it the other day and they had mens shoes in the window and I stopped and bought a pair of flip-flops. One of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I've ever put on my feet!

I was wondering the same thing. I thought everyone was so happy that they didn't need to complain about anything.

Unless they will be screwing us out of time and 1/2 too. Full time (30+ hrs.) get premium time on holidays worked.

Well you better check because I am being told there is no more time and a half for holidays.
We used to be open 10-6 on holidays.

Could this be a divisional thing?
To my knowledge, we get 4 paid (time and 1/2 if worked) holidays a year; NOT including Thanksgiving & Christmas. These are: New Years, Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day. I don't count Thanksgiving and Christmas because the store is closed and we get paid for them.

Beginning year 2008 Macy's East gives 7 Floating Holidays instead of scheduling us for an extra day off during a holiday week. These days can be taken whenever... if approved. In addition full-timers are able to "earn" 3 perfect attendance days if there are no abscenses or tardy's between Thanksgiving and Xmas. I think part-timers earn 2 perfect attendance days if criteria is met. So a Ft assoc will have a possible 10 days paid time off. If the perfect attendance days are not used by July 31 and the Floating Holidays by Jan. 31, you will lose them. Macy's will not pay you for any unused days. However, I think that if you are lucky enough to be in California, Macy's is required to pay you for any unused time off. Welcome to Macy's East

Macy's East sucks! Why is it so different for Macy's East employees? Isn't it all one company???

Sooooo....when you WORK on a holiday, you just get regular pay, and then you can take a "floating holiday" anytime, as long as it's approved? What if you DON'T work on a holiday? Do you still get paid for the day PLUS get a floating holiday? I'm confused.

If you work on a holiday you will get time and a half but if you don't work on the holiday you don't get any holiday pay. The only holidays which we are paid for not working are Thanksgiving and Xmas because the store is closed. The 4 holidays which we used to be given another day off during the holiday week are now given to us at the start of the fiscal year so that we can use them anytime during the year. These 4 floating holidays are added to the 3 paid personal days which we always got for a total of 7 and they are all called Floating Holidays. Yes, it is confusing at first but after all we work for Macy's so we shouild all be used to confusion.

So you are saying we DO get time and a half if we work on the holiday? Because I was told that we do not!

Here in CA, if we work the holiday then we get time and 1/2, then another day off within the same week with
pay. But if we don't work, we still get paid for the holiday (straight time)

Okay, I talked to HR.
In MY store, NO associates have to work on holidays; only managers. Every associate is paid time and a half for the day, even though the did not work. Associates can also choose another day for their floating holiday, and there are no restrictions. If an associate requests a day that is considered "all hands on deck", the manager of the department must fill in for them on the floor. If more than one associate from the same department request an "all hands on deck" day, the SM must also fill in on the floor.
I love Macy's!

I wanted to make some corrections. It started on Feb.2009 not 2008. Full timer do earn 3 perfect attendance days as so day part time also. Night part time earn 2 days. If you work for macys less than 2 years than you get 7 Floating Holidays, and more than 2 years you get 10 days. It does not matter if you are FT or PT. Because holiday paid is now with Floating Holidays you must work 2 holidays out of 4 holidays. Also vacation paid has change to. Before you will get 37.5 hours of vacation if you are full time, 20 hours day part time and 17 hours for night part time. This has changed. It goes by how many hours you do the year before(2008). If you on a 35 hours per week schedule but only did 33 hours on average last year, you will only get 33 hours per week of vacation. I am on a 15 hours per week day part time schedule but did an average of 32 hours last year. I get 32 hours per week vacation. Alot of people don't like the new vacation policy. But I do. Full timers really don't like it.

If any one wants to see the paper that states this info. I could set up a ftp web site to post it.

I don't know why they told you that. But it is wrong. If every body takes the day off, who will run the store. The main paper from macys says you must work 2 out of 4 holidays.
I am going to set up a FTP site hopeful by next week. so I can put up the macys information I get from them. I might call it www.welovemacys.com any suggestion.

that is exactly what the scheduling manager told me a few months ago. we DO get paid time and a half for those 4 days IF WORKED. we don't get a floating holiday to use that week cuz NOW your floating holidays are 7 total- to be used whenever...those replaced our "personal" days.
