I have heard rumors that all of the part time associates have been laid off in Georgia and Florida. Has anyone heard if they plan to lay off all part time associates? I also heard that there are armed guards at the HD stores in Florida checking merchandise leaving the stores to try and stem the tide of shoplifting and theft.

Any of the warmer weather boom states I'd expect anything from hiring freezes and layoffs to store closings .HD capitalized on the boom by basically over building .
Long story short in zeal to dominate a particular market HD frequently put 2-3 stores where they might have needed 1 but they wanted to knock out the competition and be the ones getting every sale .HD has been canabilizing it's own sales with it's own stores .Sooner or later it won't be worth the staff and expense at many locations .
Good news is that in bad times you frequently can wind up with extra hours and job security simply because there is no one else to schedule .If the extra hour/overtime spiket is on in your store get your buckets there now because sooner or later someone will turn it off .
