There was a woman who worked in dresses at Dillard's at my old mall. She was the best selling associate in the area. That was until January, when sales were down. They fired her.

Katy was told after she was hired that her purse would not work and that she could only carry this tacky clear cosmetics bag to work that clearly said Dillard's on the sides.

We went everywhere to find her a clear purse and we never could find anything other than at Bath and Body Works.

Katy's sales goals were always very unrealistic, she barely made them. There were several old ladies in the store that had been there since it opened in 1976. It was Castner Knott then, and Castner's was a posh local chain, similar to Dillard's or Macy's. Dillard's of course bought Castner's owner Mercantile Stores (Castner Knott, Gayfer's, Maison Blanche) and then changed the names... Those ladies all told horror stories about the change over.

One lady at Macy's in Nashville told me that when Castner's was sold and Dillard's came in it went to hell in a private label handbag. She said that they were adjusting to the news and preparing for their renovation to Dillard's Mens Store when they were sold to Saks Fifth Avenue who re-opened the stores as Profitts, who sold them to May who opened them as Hecht's Nashville, and then Macy's. She said things went from good to horrible, to even worse. Macy's couldn't be anywhere near as bad!
